Hospitals should strengthen security to protect staff

Most of our doctors, nurses and porters are from Black, Asian or other minority ethnic backgrounds, and with the rise in right-wing hostility I feel they’re even more at risk of targeted abuse.
I know hospitals have security guards here and there, but often they’re nowhere to be seen when something kicks off. Surely staff deserve proper protection at work? They’re already overworked and underpaid, and then they have to deal with being shouted at, threatened, or worse.
AIBU to think NHS trusts should significantly strengthen security especially in London with the recent Knobinson rally.

What evidence is there that they are any more at risk of targetted abuse? You're making massive leaps.
The NHS has no money, we need more clinical staff not security.

There is a problem with violence and abuse in hospitals and you would be incredibly naive to think that race won’t matter

we shouldn’t need security staff, we do need more clinical staff but that’s the world we live in - increasingly thuggish and not enough good people

It's absolutely necessary to have security now. Depressing but there it is. Funny how these people have no problem with Asian doctors when they need emergency surgery but are happy to hurl abuse the rest of the time.

My grandad had a guy in the next bed, who was sexually harassing the nurses and doctors treating him.

Eventually after the 4th or 5th grope, he got up and told the guy, very nicely and matter of factly, that he was a competitive strongman in his youth and still more than strong enough to break his neck if he didn't start showing the women a bit more respect.

I still remember him saying to this bloke 'I will kill you. I'm 76, I'll be dead soon, probably before I even get to prison. I have no problem taking you with me and dropping you off downstairs myself.'

He was the only one who intervened. No managers or anyone seemed to give a damn.
