Wind blowing all the bins on the road & neighbour expecting me to pick them up?

Basically today the recycling bins were all emptied today and as I was getting to go out I quickly grabbed mine and brought it back.

I was in a rush as I was going to the cash point to get some money to pay a handyman who was coming round soon.

Ten minutes later when I get back all the neighbours bins are in the road and my NDN was huffing and puffing and getting everyone’s bin and putting them in an alley so they didn’t blow across her car.

I have just heard she had been complaining that I walked of and she thinks it’s rude that I didn’t pick them up etc.

Just for the record I did previously neighbours bins but never got a thank you so I stopped doing them.

I try and avoid this particular neighbour as much as possible for the record as I find that she is just as gossip and talks about everyone etc.

Was IBU not to pick up all the bins?
I second guess myself as I am always made to feel bad by this neighbour etc.

Just ignore them. You took in your bin.

NoWordForFluffy · 15/09/2025 18:09

I think you're partly unreasonable, as we take in each other's bins here and don't thank each other for it, so I wouldn't stop doing it if I wasn't thanked.

But also reasonable not to collect bins in today if you had something to do.

DH took 2 neighbours' green bins in today, as he heard them blow over just after they were emptied.

Yanbu. You are responsible for your bins, they are responsible for theirs.

HelplessSoul · 15/09/2025 18:16

You arent responsible for peoples bins.

Your neighbour is a stupid cunt.

NoahDia · 15/09/2025 18:17

Well you couldn't, could you? 🤷‍♂️

If you could have but didn't bother then that would be unreasonable.

Facecloth · 15/09/2025 18:19

Not your job.

Your neighbours reciprocate bringing in the bin, it sounds like OP’s neighbours just expect her to do it without returning the favour.

Everyone needs to be shown appreciation.

I used to garden a part of the neighbour’s garden adjoining mine but they never acknowledged so I stopped.

smallpinecone · 15/09/2025 18:24

Not your responsibility. Forget about it.

What others choose to do with their bins is their business.

ShodAndShadySenators · 15/09/2025 18:31

I'd do that for neighbours' bins if I had time, if I didn't then I wouldn't. Not through nastiness, just can't do everything. And nobody is compelled to bring in others' bins, there's no contract that says you must. A nice thing to do if you've the time and inclination, but not compulsory.

I wouldn't waste any head space on this neighbour if I were you, you'll never do right for doing wrong. They'd possibly like that you're rattled, don't give them the satisfaction.

Tagyoureit · 15/09/2025 19:10

I live on the bend of the road so I have gone and pulled bins out of the road so there isn't an accident but I wouldnt consider it my job to do every time.

Ignore your neighbour.
