I am a permanent resident in France. I was just reading an article about the first batch of "one in, one out" detainees who are likely to be returned to this side of the Channel this week.
I really don't get it: France is a much nicer place to live than the UK. We have more space, for one thing (same sort of number of inhabitants, twice the size).
AIBU to think that they had reached a safe place and were incredibly stupid to risk their lives crossing the Channel, not to mention the fortune they have paid to the profiteering scum of the earth who run the boats.
Nobody is talking about sending them to Rwanda or back to Afghanistan or wherever. They should just apply for settlement here and build a new life....the UK is not the paradise they seem to believe. And once they are settled here there will actually be safe, legal ways to cross the Channel to be with their families.... Or the families can visit them here.
