To feel relieved after reading this article on price of friendship milestones

I don't have that many friends these days for various reasons (moving away, kids, drifting apart) and rarely invited to things like weddings / hen dos etc.

Sometimes I feel down about it and like I've gone wrong somewhere but after reading this article about the price of friendship these days, I'm actually relieved I don't have to worry about this stuff.

I did go on a few hen dos about 10 years ago but it was a meal out then a bar, probably less than £50. Tbh I'm not sure I'd want to be friends with people who expect me to spend hundreds on a hen do.

It seems like it's all about lavish locations and Instagrammable content nowadays.

It is important to keep up with friends but it shouldn’t be crazy expensive. 1000s on a hen do is insane.

True friends will not expect you to spend ££££ just to mentain the friendship.

I can't believe people feel pressured to spend so much money on various hen, wedding things. I always say no thanks if it involves travelling or spending more than I'm comfortable with. Would definitely never expect friends and family to pay loads to come to my wedding (we did it local, small gathering in a restaurant) and didn't have baby shower or hen do either.

Surely you have friends that fit into your lifestyle. None of my friends would ever be the type to want a lavish hen party, birthday do etc. That part of why we are friends.

"Just say no"

it's not that simple. I said no, And a 33 year friendship went up in smoke. We were best friends and we are still not reconciled 4 years later.

None of my friends would ask me to spend £1000 on a hen do. I wouldn’t personally take comfort from this article, focus on reaching out to potential friends as true friendship is priceless.

Oh no, I'm sorry to hear this. What exactly happened?
