Living alone when ill

One of the times I dislike living alone and being single is when I'm ill. Ive got a raging chest infection, I feel like shit. Not eating much but want this specific chicken soup that I cant get delivered. It would be lovely to have a lovely man who would go out and get it for me.

Hope you feel better soon and you aren’t being unreasonable at all. Could you ask a friend?

Thank you. I just feel like its too much to ask of a friend when I can physically go to the shops, it would just take quite a lot of energy and struggle.

If you had a man around he might not be lovely and get it for you and you'd have to put up with him all the time when you weren't ill. Being single on the whole has more advantages than disadvantages.

Hard to tell yourself that when you're ill I know. I hope you feel better soon.

One of the good things about living alone is that you can make all your own financial choices without having to consider anyone else. Get the soup! And maybe some strawberries and flowers too. Hope you feel better soon.

You're ill. Spend the money if you want to. You don't have to answer to anyone else.

EmpressaurusKitty · 14/09/2025 07:46

If you were well & doing whatever you normally do on a Saturday, would you be out spending money?

I think you’re totally justified in spending a bit extra on the soup.

True but I've had three partners in my life and all were lovely and would have gone out immediately.

I’m a single parent, so whilst not living completely alone, I don’t have someone lovely to send to the shops when I’m poorly.

Get the soup. Plus a couple of other bits for tomorrow. Plus any over the counter meds that you need.

Its not a waste of money to spend money on yourself.

Treat yourself. You're sick. Sod the extra quid.

YetanotherNC25 · 14/09/2025 09:52

A man wouldn’t necessarily be any use here. Some are idiots and behave like children when their partner is poorly. You’re an adult and you can choose what you do with your own money. If you want the soup, order it. And anything else that helps you feel better.

If I was your friend I would be more than happy to pop to the shops for you. Hope you're feeling better soon x
