HUMMUS recall toddler diarreah

Applecrumble0110 · 13/09/2025 19:07

Hi I'm so sorry for posting this in AIBU but I'm hoping more people will see. Just seen an article about a specific hummus from Sainsbury's being recalled for containing e coli bacteria. My DD (2.5) ate it Thursday evening and has quite severe diarreah at the moment. Really panicking, any tips? She's never had a poorly tummy before

It’s severe diarrhoea and awful stomach pain.

What’s the diarrhoea like?

Dramatic · 13/09/2025 19:13

If she isn't getting better ring 111 and tell them you think she could have eaten this contaminated hummus, they will probably want to get her in somewhere for testing as it can cause some nasty side effects.

GrooveArmada · 13/09/2025 19:13

Hi OP,

Are you absolutely sure she had the particular hummus that is being recalled and subject to the Do Not Eat warning? I'd check this to be 100% sure and if she did, make sure she drinks a lot and I personally would get her seen, this is likely going to lead to a bigger outbreak that will need to be monitored. I suspect othet supermarkets will be affected too, so worth watching how this unfolds.

Dramatic · 13/09/2025 19:13

In fact I'd ring them either way, you can't be too careful with something like e coli

Coffeeishot · 13/09/2025 19:14

I would contact nhs direct get her seen if they think there is an issue say about the hummus. I don't know where you are but do you have a walk in centre.

Applecrumble0110 · 13/09/2025 19:16

Hi so yes she has pretty severe diarreah, has cried about stomach ache all day. No vomiting right now and yes she had the exact batch that has been recalled. The large classic hummus with a sell by date of 15/09

Calling 111 now.

Yeah phone nhs direct,

healthyteeth · 13/09/2025 19:19

Is there any blood in the poo?
If so need to get your child to A&E op.

IvyTheCat · 13/09/2025 19:20

Hope she’s ok OP and definitely think calling 111 is the right thing to do- be prepared they’ll probably want her seen though.

just checking the recalled hummus had a date of 13/9 not 15/9.
not trying to nit pick just reassure if she hasn’t eaten the contaminated batch

IsThisLifeNow · 13/09/2025 19:20

Can you submit a sample to your GP? different strains of e.coli can cause nasty outbreaks, plus can make kids really unwell.

Junegirl15 · 13/09/2025 19:21

Was also going to say the batch is the 13/09 so be good to check the date

Applecrumble0110 · 13/09/2025 19:22

Yep I went into the bin and checked the package and it was the 13th. It had a weird watery consistency so I felt funny about it and threw it away. 111 have directed us to a pharmacy nearby who will go over her symptoms with us. Going there now but will update on here incase the advice helps anyone

Please do keep us posted when you are able to. I hope it all turns out okay.

Sainsburys have been very quiet about this, nothing was signposted in the shop earlier (the Waitrose down the road always display any recall notices) and given how much of our data they mine with Nectar cards, you'd think they'd be able to identify some of the people who brought the contaminated batch?

I've just realised I always buy the smaller tubs (DC3 has hummus everyday but it doesn't keep that long so I opt for smaller pots - 200g) so I'm hoping we are okay. Funnily enough DC3 did complain about her hummus on Thursday. She said it wasn't very nice but I'm pretty sure that was a 200g batch dated 16th September. I binned it anyway and we actually went to the local Greek deli and got a proper pot today.

Applecrumble0110 · 13/09/2025 22:15

DD was seen to. Apart from the diarreah and stomach cramps she has no other symptoms and was told she seems well in herself for now. Was asked to keep an eye on her symptoms and told somebody else came with the same issue earlier and the child was vomiting aswell. DD hasn't vomited and is fully potty trained so I've managed to check how much she's peeing so isn't dehydrated. For anyone else in the same position was told to give her electrolytes for now (after a diarreah episode) and keep an eye on her to see if she gets better and if not GP on Monday!

I image the op is stressed about her daughter being ill to bother about your demand to learn for a spelling test ffs.

mamagogo1 · 13/09/2025 23:26

Hope she recovers quickly. I had already eaten the lemon and coriander one but no sign of any issues, I do have a pretty cast iron stomach though, even if others get ill I tend not to

Applecrumble0110 · 13/09/2025 23:40

@mamagogo1 hope you don't get poorly ❤️
I've had stomach cramps and DIARRHOEA myself but I'm more worried about little one. Will be making hummus at home from now on, went to a museum/day trip near the Sainsbury's and grabbed a pot with carrot sticks as a quick snack to tide her over till dinner. Regretting it majorly.

This.

I find misspellings annoying sometimes, but my god, use a bit of common sense @GrooveArmada

JJZ · 13/09/2025 23:55

Hope she’s better soon OP.

Or houmous. You can spell it both ways.
