All those “I’m so humbled to announce…” posts are just people patting themselves on the back. AIBU?

Well yes. Obviously. It’s literally the point of linked in.

Yeah, not even thinly disguised IME! LinkedIn is completely nauseating.

That’s the point of LinkedIn. I need to post regularly for my job, and get better engagement the more braggy my posts are.

LinkedIn is there for people to showcase their professional achievements. That's the whole point

I agree with you OP but it is literally the point of LinkedIn so perhaps just not the platform for you? It's a platform to promote and discuss professional posts, which includes promoting when someone has got a new job or qualification.

Maybe that’s why it grates on me because the line between genuine updates and self-promotion feels so blurred on there.

I hate humble bragging but even I use LinkedIn for self-promotion.

Oh completely! I do find myself rolling my eyes sometimes! But also I do love seeing my colleagues and friends do well and I'm genuinely happy when I see a post where someone has got an opportunity they totally deserved.

I’ve seen the ‘humbled to announce’ thing from both men and women, seems more about LinkedIn culture than gender to me.

Just popped onto Linkedin and everyone in my feed is being "authentic". I feel a bit queasy now, that'll teach me not to check LinkedIn on a Saturday.

I don’t really use it except to update it when I change jobs and occasionally I’ll post a vacancy at my current work or repost one for a friend/ colleague but that’s it.

LI is literally an online CV where you big yourself up. It’s a network.

What is becoming annoying is politics on there with zero relevant to their business/what they do. Needs to be kept on Facebook.
