To want dh to stop taking my bloody water?

Lovelyzara · 12/09/2025 17:21

I like to have a glass of water by me to drink. I keep the same glass throughout most of the day and just keep refilling it. I always have it with me on a coaster next to where I’m sitting.

Dh keeps clearing it away, all the bloody time. I go to have a sip and he’s taken it.

Just why? And yes I have repeatedly asked him not to.

Surely that just creates more washing up. Yanbu.

Lovelyzara · 12/09/2025 17:24

It’s not even like it’s empty when he takes it. He just takes it and pours my drink away.

Is he like this with other things? Or just absent minded?

My FIL does this and it drives me nuts. Just leave my water alone!

It comes from wanting things to be tidy, but it’s always on a coaster and has water in it.

Very absent minded. Sometimes I swear he’s losing it.

or tell him - leave my Bloody water alone!!!!

He’s not even very tidy, that’s the thing. He leaves his own coffee mugs around but pours my water away.

Get a glass that says something on it like No or F off so he might see it! Has he always done it or is it a new thing? Start taking his coffee away that he’s still drinking.

can you switch to a bottle and then just move it with you.

Tallestone · 12/09/2025 17:34

I do the same at home I always have a glass of water next to me that I refill. Sometimes Dp does try and move it but I'm like I haven't finished leave it.

Tallestone · 12/09/2025 17:36

I did used to leave it in the kitchen by the sink but he would put dirty knife etc in it thinking it was dirty so I moved it near my sofa where I sit .

SkankingWombat · 12/09/2025 17:40

Could you insist he gets you a replacement every time he does it? The inconvenience being pushed onto him may focus his mind to leave it be.

ToKittyornottoKitty · 12/09/2025 17:44

What does he say when you ask why he does it? Especially despite asking him repeatedly not to do it? Is this a recent thing?

IneedtheeohIneedtheeeveryhourIneedthee · 12/09/2025 17:45

I am the same as you OP. I am famous for leaving glasses of water lying about. But I always notice if one has gone and I am like 'where's my water'. haha

Lovelyzara · 12/09/2025 17:51

The person who voted yabu - id love to know why 🤣

So it’s not even like I’m leaving the water lying around. It’s next to me and dh takes it when I’m not looking.

I have tried telling him to get me a replacement, but he just forgets to get one.

I could start pouring his coffee away, but I reckon he’d just think he forgot to make one and get himself another.

I could change to a water bottle but I do prefer a glass.

When I ask him why he keeps doing it he just says “ooo sorry”.

So he doesn’t no how to answer questions, remember to get a replacement, or stop doing it? Really? Is he a marshmallow?

Ratafia · 12/09/2025 17:55

Put a card on top with large NO written on it.

Honestly? I do often wonder if he is losing the plot.

You would think if someone had asked you repeatedly not to do a very simple thing that you’d remember wouldn’t you?

And no he doesn’t answer. I suppose that he’s got no answer because what possible reason could there be?

And yes he goes to the kitchen to get another glass and forgets.

Yes get a carafe/glass combo. Pour out as much as you want to drink, put the glass on the top when you're not drinking from it.

Is it a recent issue? I’d be genuinely concerned if so! If not it’s just weaponised incompetence and he’s being a moron. I’d start leaving glasses of water everywhere and wait until he starts asking you the questions

Katemax82 · 12/09/2025 18:01

Keep a fly swatter handy and twat his hand when he goes to pick up the glass

That sounds controlling. His motive is not clean up a mess but to take your water so you are forced to get up every time you want a sip of water. It disturbs you and prevents you from fully relaxing in your own home.

This isn't acceptable. If he really doesn't know/remember/realise he's doing it, he needs to get checked out by a medical professional.

You've told him multiple times to stop, I'd be assuming he's doing it on purpose at this point.
