To think that it’s ironic that there isn’t one thread about the Colorado school shooting.

Just that really. The press and social media have been going crazy about the assassination of Charlie Kirk and yet there are very few reports of a school shooting in Colorado at the same time, in which two students were critically injured and the gunman turned the weapon on himself.

OP posts:

Where is the irony?

herashere · 11/09/2025 17:50

What type of irony is that then?

Gladysknightjustwalkinmyshoes · 11/09/2025 17:51

Unfortunately school Shootings are two a penny in the good ole US of A.

LemonSqueezy0 · 11/09/2025 17:53

I think it is a sign of the times. School shootings happen so often it's fairly old news. How horrific is that? Charlie kirk himself said school shootings are to be expected and a price you pay to be able to bear arms.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/09/2025 17:54

YANBU @Rosscameasdoody.

Cleopatcher · 11/09/2025 17:58

What irony?

This is a discussion forum. Unless you've been living under a rock, you'll hear about school shooting in the US. You'll be disgusted as we all are and be utterly exasperated at their gun policies. But sadly it's a relatively common event and it's been discussed to death to no avail.

Assassinating a well known, controversial public speaker in full view of thousands of people is far more unusual than the former. This provokes new conversations about shutting down debate by killing someone. Hence all the posts.

It's not rocket science or ironic.

EchoedSilence · 11/09/2025 18:10

So because school shootings are common place in the good old USA we should say, oh well never mind, it happens?

But when some bigot who clearly gave no fucks about students getting murdered gets shot, we should all fall over ourselves to say how terrible it is?

TowersofGable · 11/09/2025 18:14

This is about as ironic as everything listed in the song “Ironic” by Alanis Morissette.

YorkshireGoldie · 11/09/2025 18:14

It’s very sad, it happens too much, it’s been overshadowed by Charlie Kirk’s brutal murder, but ironic it is not

CeciliaDuckiePond · 11/09/2025 18:14

I suppose there is little controversy about the school shooting - anyone in their right mind would condemn it unreservedly, so there is nothing to discuss on social media; most people will agree it is a tragedy.

Kirk was a controversial figure so there is (for some) a debate still to be had.

School shootings, It shouldn’t happen, but it’s so common it sadly doesn’t get reported on

Charlie Kirk, whether you agree with him or not, yes it was terrible.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 11/09/2025 18:42

Unfortunately we live in a world where "collateral damage" is barely registered in the struggle for money, power, and clicks.

I totally get where you're coming from @Rosscameasdoody .

Currently looking at the state of the world with a ten thousand yard stare and a sense of helplessness like permanent heartburn.

PennySweeet · 11/09/2025 18:44

I wonder if the irony is the OP is moaning that there wasn't one thread, when she could've started one herself?

Other than that, I can't see a hint of irony anywhere?

It's not only that it happens depressingly often, but that the US has shown no interest in taking action to stop future occurrences besides traumatising kids with lock down drills and bullet proof backpacks.

TooBigForMyBoots · 11/09/2025 18:50

It is ironic that the man who was willing to accept the murder of innocents as the cost of America's liberal gun laws, has paid the price himself.

I don't support it, but Charlie Kirk did.

Last night there was another school shooting in America.

It would appear so. Not falling over myself whatsoever over here.

Yup

As someone who had a very close friend in America who died in a preventable school shooting, I couldn't give less of a crap about this pro guns profiteer dying this way.

God, 100% feel this. It’s only 3 months since Melissa Hortman and her husband were assassinated, and 5 months since the attempted assassination of Josh Shapiro and his family. Apparently Hortman’s assassin had a list of 70 potential targets, including many other democratic lawmakers, in his car.

Where the fuck is it going to end?

TooBigForMyBoots · 12/09/2025 22:28

In more violence, more people being killed and a radical change in the USA's democracy.

HerewardtheSleepy · 12/09/2025 22:42

What is the point of starting a thread about it? About either of these incidents TBH?
