How do you feel about this wording about a pro Palestine meeting held on company time and that it singles that Israeli or Jewish can attend but they must meet the criteria?

The company is public sector ish. This is a group for work colleagues to help the world be anti racist.

Why on earth is this going on in company time?

Anti Racism group.

We can have groups for our interests.

What happened to going to work to - you know - work? Assuming political campaigning is not the focus of the business, why are management allowing this? Equalities officers and diversity officers are employed to improve things within the company, not solve all the ills of the world over a meeting.

This is SO inappropriate and would be equally inappropriate (although not so divisive) if the meeting was about Ukraine, Yemen, Sudan or any other flashpoint.

Oh she's say the heads of department are white washed ....

Sorry that should read they are all white so it's a white wash

But the role of the anti-racism officer, or diversity lead, or whatever is to improve diversity and recruiting within that particular company. It is not to campaign on wider political issues which are not within the control of the organisation.

Are the department heads scared of her?

OMG. Only in the public sector 🤦🏼‍♀️

Given it’s allowed, I think the meaning of the wording is pretty clear. It’s not a meeting to discuss the rights or wrongs of the Israeli government action; it’s simply to work out how you can support those affected in Gaza.

Saying it’s anti-Semitic is off radar. It clearly isn’t. Although it is probably pretty obviously anti-Zionist.

EasternStandard · 11/09/2025 09:46

What a work place. How can you foster people getting along with this as messaging.

MsMiniver · 11/09/2025 10:14

I think it makes sense and is well worded as possible in such sensitive times.
Anti- Zionism is NOT antisemitism.

They shouldn't be promoting their anti anything, if it's irrelevant to the work place business. Not that I agree with the demarcation of anti semitism v zionism - that's just a cop out. Unless you believe Jewish people don't deserve a safe space.

MsMiniver · 11/09/2025 10:21

I do believe Jewish people deserve a safe space, just like everyone else deserves a safe space.

MsMiniver · 11/09/2025 10:26

I work in the charity sector and some places I’ve worked have an different “affinity group” for all sorts of identities and characteristics and beliefs. Also some say things like “this is for LGBTQ people ONLY please don’t come to the group if you are an ally please join the other group that includes allies”. I thought that was fair enough (but also who has time to be in all the groups in work time anyway!) It’s a big thing to bring your whole self to work and feel seen in the charity sector. I joined a parents and carers one but didn’t ever really have time to attend the meetings.

Then they didn't need to go into a tirade about occupation etc.

Also not buying from a business due to their race/religion is pretty hardcore racism

Why isn't it?

Boycotting a company because they are owned by Jews is awful.

Just like me not going to my local shop because run by Muslims, Muslim out nails in girls at concerts, killing them. Muslims beheaded people on the London bridge.

Sorry. I was just answering your OP.

Tbh, I think the whole thing is ludicrous to be being held in a place of work, during working hours. But if it’s allowed, the wording isn’t too problematic.

Wording? I think it's wrong for a company to suggest you don't buy Israel or Jewish products, unless you do?

OP posts:
NoSoupForU · 11/09/2025 10:43

Why do you keep asking this?

I don't see an issue with the wording. It is a support meeting, not a platform for arguments which is made clear by extending the invite to specific groups of people but reiterating the purpose of the meeting.

Being on company time is perhaps a little more of an issue, but again depends on so much context that just isn't provided.

Sorry, I don’t see that in the images in your OP.

Ddakji · 11/09/2025 10:47

Zionism (the idea of the Jews having their own homeland) is fairly inherent in Judaism so this is anti-Semitic from the get-go.

The second bullet point presumably includes pretty much everyone so not sure why they’re singling out Jews and Israelis (or conflating them).

ParmaVioletTea · 11/09/2025 15:52

Held in company time? It’s completely inappropriate and makes weaselly claims about Zionism which are borderline Jew hatred.

Company time issue for whom?

I guess you aren't Jewish

Next time we can have a meeting and not invite Muslims because they do all the terrorism

Who is Israel - Jewish

TheOchreCrow · 11/09/2025 18:03

No…
Jewish businesses anywhere but Israel would be unaffected.
As I said in my original response to this, the wording is clearly anti-Zionist but NOT anti-Semitic.
