My knees crack & creak

MousseMousse · 10/09/2025 16:43

Even going down the stairs.
What can I do?

Do specific exercises help?

Do supplements actually work? I already take several prescribed meds per day, I'm reluctant to spend on pricey supplements that might not help or on massive horse pills.

I'm 37 and it's embarrassing

Mine started getting like this in my 30s .I started exercising and it went.Squats, fasr treadmill walking on an incline, keeps them creak free.As you get stronger up the walk to a run and add weights to the squats.

My left knee does this. I was diagnosed with mild osteoarthritis. I use Turmeric as a supplement from Holland and Barrett. I might be imagining it but I do feel I’ve had less cracking and creaking since. I already had some long standing damage in that knee though.

strengthen exercises that target the muscles around the knee -quadriceps and hamstring exercises such as squats, split squat, walking lunges, bridges, active hamstring stretch in supine etc

First call is an appointment with your local physio service - in many places you can self refer rather than going via the GP.

MousseMousse · 10/09/2025 16:59

Both me and DH have this as well as general joint pain.

He went with glucosamine tablets. If 1100mg a day don't do anything by 3 months then it won't work. They didn't for me but he feels great, also helped his arthritic wrist/hand.

I'm on my first packet of collagen and it does seem to be doing something as I feel worse on the stairs if I forget a dose.

I use seaweed supplements I discovered in Holland and Barrett, its called doctor seaweed. They have different versions of supplements but I take the immunity ones and Collagen. I have been taking them for a few months now and I've seen such a difference in my energy and overall body strength. Deffo recommend it to anyone looking for something natural.
