LaVieEnRose · 01/06/2008 21:37

Oh do you mean you are going to come back and work? I thought you meant come back and carry on drinking!

NomDePlume · 01/06/2008 21:37

depends on what you do for a living and how drunk you are !

QuintessentialShadows · 01/06/2008 21:38

Just dont email any clients and make sure you triple check your work after you had some sleep/sobered up.

duchesse · 01/06/2008 21:39

ravenAK · 01/06/2008 21:40

& no vital phone calls to crucial clients!

Vodka & RB next drink, that should get things going a bit...

duchesse · 01/06/2008 21:41

BAD but lovely im sure Im reading human traces just now by the way - its hard work but fascinating i think. about half way through

duchesse · 01/06/2008 22:06

It's good isn't it? I do think I preferred his other books though. It seemed a little too self-consciously erudite in places, Human Traces. At least with Birdsong and Charlotte Gray you got a cracking good story. I suppose the story in Human Traces is OK, but I'm a sucker for good saga, and there's not masses of that in HT.

How are you doing Duchesse?
Just seen this, I'm a fellow translator - I've found moments of brilliance often follow a few drinks Not that I'm often drunk in charge of a translation mind you!

duchesse · 01/06/2008 23:03

Nor me...

I'm "only" proofreading it now (finished the first draft at lunchtime). Had bad can it be?

ahem

OP posts:
SlartyBartFast · 01/06/2008 23:05

i asumed the all nighter was... some sort of sexual act

wigparty · 01/06/2008 23:11

Lol SBF, think it's more boring, unless you're translating a racy piece duchesse?

You have my sympathies anyway, I've had more late nights with matchsticks propping open eyes than I care to remember, the deadline is the deadline is the deadline... Good luck with it!

duchesse · 01/06/2008 23:13

3000/25000 words

This could take a looong time.

OP posts:
duchesse · 01/06/2008 23:14

and sadly not at all racy, it's more the stuff of nightmares. Think "Bonfire of the Vanities" meets "The Day after Tomorrow".

OP posts:
wigparty · 01/06/2008 23:14

oh god, what's the subject? what's the deadline?
any chance you could sleep and set the alarm for an obscene hour tomorrow morning?
Better not keep chatting to you though as you sound like you need to get your head down

duchesse · 01/06/2008 23:17

disaster recovery/ management

fun fun fun

I might just do the 5am thing.

I'll see how the next few hours go first.

OP posts:
wigparty · 01/06/2008 23:19

good luck

lucyellensmum · 02/06/2008 14:51

RE the book: I know what you mean, its almost like reading something factual. He has thrown in a few famous neurologists in there for good measure and i recognise this as i have an interest in neurobiology, but no experience of psychiatry so i spend alot of time scratching my head as to whether he is sticking to facts of spattering in a few names! I really liked birdsong, ive read the begining of it twice and then for some reason about 2/3 of the way through i falter, but i might give it another go

Excuse the hijack

duchesse · 02/06/2008 22:25

Finished!!! And SENT!!!!! (please forgive teh surfeit of exclamation marks- I'm just looking forward to taking the rest of the week off.
