Dog shit. What is the matter with people?

Walking on paths / pavements on the estate I live on this evening. About 400 houses. Why oh why do people leave their dog shit for others to step in????? I’m so fucked off that I’ve just stepped in some. I was watching as well as I could with lampposts and phone torch at 9pm. I picked up my own dog’s shit. I wonder why I bothered.

If I ruled the UK, all dogs would have their DNA in a database - at the owner’s cost. If your dog’s shit was found once then you would be fined £1,000. Twice and the fine is £10,000. Three times and your house is taken away - owned/rented/social/whatever - I don’t care. You get sent to live in a tent and the government/landlord/council takes possession of your house. And your dog is given to someone who will look after him/her properly. And your children as well.

How can we stop people leaving dog shit everywhere? It’s just so stupid and selfish.

Yanbu - and I am a dog owner!

FishNChipsandScrapsSaltNVinegarToo · 09/09/2025 23:27

Same with cat shit. I have cat shit in the garden and I don’t own a cat!

Lavender14 · 09/09/2025 23:28

It's disgusting. I would never not clean up after my dog.

Cats are obviously much harder to manage but there's no excuse with a dog.

TheaBrandt1 · 09/09/2025 23:28

Impressive rant op particularly like the detail of your escalating punishments!

My kids school has 3 lovely big sports fields. Lots of people leave their discusting dog shit there. I wish we could track down the owners and rub their fucking nose In it.

I’m sure I could incorporate this into my punishment system. It could go with stage 2. It would fit quite nicely. You pay the £10,000 fine and have your nose rubbed in dog shit.

I absolutely hate it because it gives dog owners a bad name.

Walked along a country lane recently I'd never been down before and just couldn't believe the amount of dog poo, clearly the same few owners that do that walk regularly, it absolutely stank at some points! Part of owning a dog is accepting that sometimes you will have to walk some distances carrying a bag of poo or two 🤷‍♀️

itsoktonotbeokitstrue · 09/09/2025 23:53

School run in the morning makes me so mad, it’s such a short walk and it’s all over the place and with kids walking everywhere. People saying “mind the poo” to each other. Ultimately it getting splatted at some point hopefully not walked into school.
I also get cat poo in my garden, when my boy is a house cat and very tidy. Why should I have cat poo on my property?
Also from the other side of the argument, we need more bins for dog poo. It’s worse when people bag it up and leave the bags. It won’t even decompose.

hungryduck · 09/09/2025 23:54

As a dog owner I hate it too! My dog is a giant breed with giant shits to go with...but they all get picked up, bagged and binned. It's not difficult. I refuse to do it with just hand in bag so bought a pooper-scooper to do it. Put the bag on the scooper and good to go without touching it.

Cleaning someone else's dog shit off my dogs paws because he's trodden in it is the most disgusting part of our walks.

MyOtherCarIsAPorsche · 10/09/2025 00:01

many more owners should be fined for allowing their dogs to foul public areas. Dogs should not be taken out for the sole purpose of using public areas as a cesspit. Even if picked up, the filth left behind still transfers to whatever goes over the top of it.

having taught in primary schools, there have been no end of incidents involving children sitting on the carpet area, picking/flicking dog dirt off their shoes. When dog dirt is walked into schools it is quickly spread far and wide/transferred from shoes to hands as a proportion of teaching at this age is done whilst children are sat on a carpeted area.

my mother didn't take her dog for a walk until it had dumped in an area of the garden. She trained it to evacuate on demand.

i once had to clean dog dirt off my shopping as it had come from the wheels of DGC's pushchair in the boot of the car

taking my granddaughter out in her wheelchair in a major city whilst she was in hospital for three weeks recently, it was impossible to find clean pavements as most of them had heaps of dog dirt, or long trails of walked through/spreading dog dirt, or streams of dog pee full width of the pavement so you couldn't avoid it unless you stepped on the road - it was a constant obstacle course. The wheelchair was then wheeled back into hospital with dog waste on the wheels. A major city centre?

it's indefensible

dogs should foul their owner's property, not public property

I think a phantom shitter has read the thread as 3% have voted that I’m being unreasonable but nobody has disagreed!

Always clean up after my dogs.

MrsFrumble · 10/09/2025 00:42

I don’t want other people’s bagged dog shit in my wheelie bin either. If I wanted a bin full of shit-bags, I’d get a dog of my own. Take it home, you scurvy knaves!

101jobs · 10/09/2025 08:18

Completely agree OP, nobody should own a dog if they don’t like clearing up their dog’s poo.

I am lost for words that 4% voted YABU!

vivainsomnia · 10/09/2025 08:44

Each time I've got one culprit, it was an elderly person. They don't do it because they grew up at a time that it wasn't done and for some because they can't bend down.

I don't care. Its selfish and disgusting. I'm sure they would be outraged if it was in front of their door. Don't own a dog if you are not prepared to pick up their shit.

Dramallamafromyork · 10/09/2025 09:00

What’s the punishment for the bag-it-and-leave-it crew?

Well, for those people, I give you the shit fairy. Kind of like the tooth fairy- comes when you’re asleep and puts something under your pillow. Only instead of a coin, it’s a bag of dog shit that goes under your pillow. But hey, that should be fine, as it’s bagged?

Of course, there is a £1,000 fine associated with the services of the shit fairy.

Bring back the stocks I say and offenders should have dog shit flung at them

Westfacing · 10/09/2025 12:21

Someone posted on Next Door photos of a woman in a park who had refused to pick up her dog's shit. When confronted by the poster the owner replied

This is the poo part of the park it's allowed! and walked off!
