Absolutely love this programme. Always feel so happy after each episode. A real tonic after a hard day !

Brings light to our lives!!!

Pepperedpickles · 09/09/2025 22:17

Me too. One of my favourite things to watch.

LadyGaGasPokerFace · 09/09/2025 22:20

It’s a bad influence on me. I’m sure it subliminally made me rescue a dog 😳

We got a rescue cat - we couldn’t get a dog for various reasons but the whole thing made us realise how much we wanted a pet. Our rescue cat Gary is very grateful. 🤗

Love it too !

redfairy · 09/09/2025 23:25

Aww we love the Doghouse. Interviewed for this series but I don't think we were interesting enough 😆 But...we did go on to adopt our beautiful bichon frise Martha independently from a local charity. It's such a heart warming programme and I love guessing who ends up with each dog 🥰

Meadowland · 10/09/2025 21:58

@redfairy Yes me too ! Also love hearing what brings the people to want to adopt, their back stories etc
Sorry you didn't get on, but had you got a rescue in the end.

Love this program! But I do find the "sob stories" (I hate that term but you know what I mean) a bit... manufactured curated drama?

The premise is already heart-warming on its own, so layering on a heart tugging tragic backstory every time for every adopter can come across as formulaic or even manipulative.

DaveClifton · 12/09/2025 21:32

I’m a cat person and yet I LOVE The Dog House. Life-affirming.

TATT2 · 12/09/2025 21:36

We love it. BUT they often rehome dogs to people who are sadly too old to realistically provide a home for life. They were willing to let an 88 year old have an 8 year old small dog tonight. It could live another 7 years easily!

But so could they…! They were seemingly in good health. Lots of people live active lives until their 90s now.

The old twins probably had a contingency plan of family to support and take on their dogs, but decent rescues contract adopters to return the dogs if circumstances changes and can't keep so it may still worth the dog getting a home especially when fewer adopters want a dog that's 7+yrs and not all will make old bones.
You could tell however she had already decided she wasn't that interested in that mix before meeting him so didn't really give it a chance. It looked like the dogs got on.

cleo333 · 12/09/2025 22:03

Same here , I love it and don’t even have a dog

KellyJonesLeatherTrousers · 12/09/2025 22:24

Oooh yes, definitely YANBU. Just watched the first one of the new series, it didn’t disappoint - and I am not particularly crazy about dogs, just love the stories of good things coming to good people after challenging times.

mumisfull · 12/09/2025 23:14

Love the dog house apart from the really annoying receptionist/actress. I adopted cats from there and the day to day desk staff are lovely. Wonder why they had to bring an actress in?

FirstCuppa · 12/09/2025 23:23

Me too! So heartwarming!

This puzzles me too! I would far rather see the real staff, they do that in other shows so I've no idea why this odd idea to hire a fake receptionist in this one.

Meadowland · 13/09/2025 08:24

Yes I agree about the receptionist, she is a bit OTT. Much better to have a genuine staff member.

I love it too - and I'm not a dog person. I do sometimes think they should show more of the assessment that goes on, as it does rather imply that anyone having some kind of life crisis can just rock up and collect a puppy.

Meadowland · 14/09/2025 08:27

@Ketzele Yes I know what you mean , but equally it is refreshing that they don't have the ridiculously high conditions imposed by a lot of rescue centres.

It's such a lovely programme and I actually really like the actress on reception.

The stories are often very moving, but I totally agree that they should show some people who don't have a sad story too.

This and 'All Creatures Great and Small' are pretty much the only TV I watch, except maybe a bit of Strictly!

It might be the actual receptionist doesn't want to take part or be on TV.

and I guess when showbiz takes over and gets their own in....
