5yr old rotavirus

Child was sick randomly Friday morning.
No more sickness over the weekend, very chipper and eating normally.
4am yesterday morning violent watery diarrhoea, bit more watery diarrhoea through the day but small amounts, hoped we were coming out the other end of it. Then midnight last night, huge vomit. More watery diarrhoea and large vomit today (all water as that’s all he’s had other than a few plain crackers).

Im pretty sure this is rotavirus? Due to the watery diarrhoea? My question is how many days in are we? Did it start Friday? Or yesterday morning with the diarrhoea?

Could just as easily be norovirus or covid. Counting days from the start doesn't make any difference though? The important part is that they have to be symptom free for 48 hours before being considered not infectious.

Rotavirus tends to have a very distinct smell. It's not just watery but smells utterly vile but also a bit like sweet cut grass. Most people say you never forget the smell of a rotavirus poo.

Oh yeah he’s not going to school or anywhere else until he’s at least 48hrs clear of any D&V (I’m not an arsehole 😂😂😂 honestly I can’t tell you how annoyed I am he’s already got this less than a week into school) but I’m basically trying to work out how much longer he will be unwell for the poor little guy/how much longer I’m housebound.
I wouldn’t say the pooh smell is any worse than any other time he’s had diarrhoea. It’s just super watery which dr google mentioned is likely rotavirus?

I thought it was meant to have a distinct smell too, but only because of another parent telling me when her kid had it - so not based on great research! Some might not have the smell, just like lots might not have the “whoop” with whooping cough or only v and d symptoms with a covid infection. Good luck to you and your little one. Sympathies - school does often feel like how many crappy illnesses can you catch/bring home each term? It really wasn’t like this when I was growing up.

Same! I’ve often thought “I don’t remember having a regular cold or sick bug situation” as a kid!
How much longer will this go on 😩 I’m also very aware me and my other kids are sitting ducks 👀👀👀👀👀
