To think people who inherit wealth shouldn’t call themselves self-made?

If you started life with money, property or connections from family, AIBU to think calling yourself “self-made” is a joke?

I don't know anyone in that position who does that. People I know who inherited money, know where their money came from- a place of privilege- but they work and have success from then on too.

It depends on how successful they've been at increasing their wealth.

Say you inherit £100k, and use it to grow a business to £1.1mil+, then yes you’re a self made millionaire.

Children of wealthy people are allow to achieve things and be acknowledged for their work and success too. Yes they probably had a leg up, but that doesn’t make their achievements invalid.

If that person has already built their fortune before inheriting, then they are self made. And lucky.
