To ask if anyone will admit to littering?

I am genuinely intrigued to see if anyone will admit to littering, on purpose. I was walking through the woods earlier and there was a starbucks cup and a few can discarded along my route. I am sure that occasionally people drop things by accident but undoubtedly some of it is intentional. I genuinely can't imagine chucking my rubbish on the floor so if anyone will admit to it, why do you do it?

Bins are literally EVERYWHERE!!

I was referencing the pp who said she leaves bottles when there are no bins

The principle ought to be don’t buy something unless you’re going to deal responsibly with whatever’s left over.

I live by the beach and the state day trippers leave it in is disgusting. A lot of them don’t even bother shopping here - they bring their food and drink with them, leave the packaging strewn over the beach and get the train back home again. I’d honestly pay a bit more in my council tax for a couple of beach inspectors to keep an eye out when people are packing up to make sure they take their rubbish home.

No, I don't litter. I think it shows a serious character flaw in a person if they litter. In my opinion, decent people do not litter.

Do you throw apple cores in your garden to rot? No?

To be fair I have chucked an apple core into the back of a flower bed in my garden before yes. And rot away it does.

I do tbh but big, fairly wild, garden I live in the sticks. I have a rescue chicken who will probably hunt it down and finish it off.

I wouldn’t throw an apple core in a bush in a city centre park. I think there’s an element of common sense over the impact.

Me too it’s grim.

round here there seems to be a particular issue with roundabouts. People like chucking their litter out the car at roundabouts apparently and the council can’t afford to deal with it

I’d argue that any money would be better spent trying to educate the youth rather that picking it up, if there was a choice

locals do organise litter picks eventually but they shouldn’t have to!

If I know that things will rot away quickly and there's no bins nearby I do it.

Over the summer we had takeaway pizzas in the park and as there were no bins we left the boxes in some bushes. They're cardboard so they'll be gone by now or birds would use it for a house.

Have you heard of the broken window theory?

They were right though. Adding to litter already there is no excuse.

Yes. I am aware of that. I didn't make an excuse.

Cherrytree86 · 10/09/2025 08:36

Anyone who litters is gross. End of.

Never, ever. It’s just unthinkable.

I once saw a man sitting in traffic throw litter onto the road I was about to cross. I picked it up and threw it onto his lap.

Yes, girl 👏

I leave my apple cores in the garden for the squirrels, they disappear in a day.

It's not litter if it's in your own garden.

Depends what it is though doesn't it. Apple cores fine but if someone regularly just slung out their dirty nappies, old fridges etc then I'd class that as littering as it impacts negatively on neighbours.

I'm not sure there would probably be another name for it, I think littering refers to a public space but maybe I'm wrong. Back in the 70s there was a woman near me in a 1st floor flat who used to throw dirty nappies out of her kitchen window aiming at the communal bins. She pretty much always missed but didn't care. that was disgusting and in a public space.

Yuck, that's gross. Some people are disgusting. 🤮
