Am I the only one sick of the sun?

Just that really. Am I the only one sick of the heat and the sunshine now? I just want to put my leggings and jumpers on and get my boots out! Absolutely love a dark evening with the lamp and candles on snuggled under a blanket.

Yes yabu. I hate the dark and the cold, and have immense middle aged joy at hanging the washing outside.
When we retire i intend spending a good part of the winter somewhere warm, not roasting hot, but not grey and wet uk winters!

“Yea I do like to snuggle under a blanket with my children, is that ok? Sorry I didn’t realise I’d used such an insulting word.“

I think it was the pa apology, and the fact that you’ve taken my dislike of the word “snuggle” as a personal criticism and responded with sarcasm and defensiveness. In a nutshell.

How is any of that sarcastic? You have a bee in your bonnet now please stop acting like a child and move along.

I do love that perennial plants shut down over winter as well as some animals. They get cosy deep within the soil and their nests. If it's a particularly harsh winter lots of the flora and fauna won't survive.

We can as humans if we are able to afford heating and food. But alerts are sent out to always check on neighbours during extremes, whether heatwaves or freezing temperatures. Some people cannot afford to put the heating on.

Always get your boiler checked and serviced before winter sets in. And do take care of your nearest and dearest.

I love a snowy winter scene it defines the seasons. However being snowed in is quite different and could be dangerous for some.

ChocolateCinderToffee · 08/09/2025 15:17

It’s about 20C and sunny with a breeze where I am. Perfect!

noidea69 · 08/09/2025 15:19

God no, give it a couple of weeks and all the "just want to put my jumper on" people will be out in force complaining about how dark it is & how its pissing down with rain.

and they wont have gone on any of the walks they claimed they were going to go on.

It’s such an awful word. It reminds me of being ill. Why on earth would you want to ‘snuggle’ under a blanket. I’d rather be out and about in the lovely sunshine.

I like to call it ‘festering under a blanket’ which people on Mumsnet seem to like to do for about 6 months solid. I always wonder how they find the time and why it is such a coveted activity.

With you OP.👍

Love the cooler, misty mornings whereas recently it has been too warm to sit out even with my morning cuppa!

It was 18 when I went out at just after 9 this morning. Presumably your morning cuppa is earlier that this? How is that too warm to sit in? That’s my heating coming on temp indoors - and I need multiple layers to sit still in it.

Mutability · 08/09/2025 15:21

We’re having a week up north. It’s fricking freezing. I can’t wait to get back down south.

Can’t you snuggle up together in the natural warmth? Why does it need a blanket?

Yes yabu
We need all the vitamin D we can get to set us up for the winter. I absolutely loathe all the dark, long nights and the endless gloom. Hate it.

same!!!

Yes.

I'm going through a bit of a tough time right now and have taken today off work as an MH day. This afternoon I'm going to walk up to my favourite seat and sit in the sun for a while and hope that it makes me feel a bit better.

If I was currently feeling as I do now on a typical grey, dark, cold, miserable autunn/winter day, I don't know what I'd do.

Sorry you’re having a rough time. I know sitting in the sun makes me feel better too. I’ve actually looked at the forecast and worked out which mornings I’ll be able to sit out before work with a coffee in the sun and that will brighten my mood. I’m looking forward to those days.

I struggled last week when we seemed to plunge from a glorious summer in to a miserable wet autumn.

I have found a 10,000 lux sad lamp helps when then mornings start to get gloomy.

We need sun for life so the title of this thread is making me a bit cross!

I sat out at 7.15am the sun wasn’t above my trees yet and I had to have a furry blanket around me. It has not been too warm to sit out in the morning for a coffee! People just make stuff up.

Maybe at 11 am yesterday it was a bit warm (was lovely to me).

Ponderingwindow · 08/09/2025 15:30

I’m one of those people who can get a sunburn in a few minutes on a high uv day. I absolutely hate sunny weather. I want to move somewhere with perpetual, year round fog. Fall can’t get here fast enough.

Autumnleaves73 · 08/09/2025 15:40

I'm loving the cold untill January, then it's a count down to warmer weather
Always hate January and February
Can never think of anything to do that would make me look forward to it

LeaAndDer · 08/09/2025 15:42

Nooooo give me sunshine all the time, it does me good to feel that warmth.

scalt · 08/09/2025 15:45

You'll have PLENTY of time soon to enjoy the dark, the gloom, the drizzle, the damp, the fog. It will be here before you know it.

Meanwhile, I intend to enjoy every little last ray of sunshine, while the sun haterz sulk.

Mustreadabook · 08/09/2025 15:47

I was sick of the sun but then it rained for a week and now I'm appreciating it again! It's not too hot now, just right here.

placemats · 08/09/2025 15:48

I hate the damp, fog, scraping frost from the windscreen, slippery frosty roads and the driving through snow. Plus days when the lights in the house never turn off. How gloomy is that?

bumbaloo · 08/09/2025 15:50

Hate hate hate the drop in sun and warmth and light. Feeling quite despondent already

burndavideatglass · 08/09/2025 15:50

Bring on the Winter, cannot wait.

Delatron · 08/09/2025 15:57

This thread has inspired me to drop everything I was doing and go sit in the beautiful sunshine with a cup of tea for 10 minutes. As it will be in very short supply soon.

ILoveWhales · 08/09/2025 15:59

No. I get depressed in the cold and dark.

Sounds lovely. I've been making the most of doing all the lovely dog walks near us that will be muddy messes or inaccessible due to it being too dark to use them safely in just a few short weeks.

Yes I’m actually looking forward to a dog walk in the sun in the morning. It looks to be around 11 degrees and sunny (so not too hot for those that complain!).

It’s miserable walking him in the mud and rain for months! And yes the dark evenings make many areas a no go. We used to love a sunny evening walk along the river with a pit stop at the local. None of that on winter evenings.

I very much doubt anywhere in the UK has the sun beating down right now. And FWIW, I live in the SE.

Currently in SW London watching cricket - there are some clouds in the sky but otherwise yes, the sun is beating down! (I’ve had to move seats 4 times because I keep burning my face - I do LOVE the sun though and am dreading the tail end of the week)
