Toys of yesteryear

My grown up daughter has just discovered that all her childhood toys have been "lost" thrown away by her father during a recent house move.

Are there any reputable sites where she could buy toys of the 90s - Polly Pocket type stuff?

Ebay? Maybe vinted.

RaraRachael · 06/09/2025 13:42

Thanks. She's tried both of those. I was looking for maybe some place that specialises in old toys.

Toy/Collectors Fairs will be a good place to look (or comic-con style events).
They are regularly held all over the UK.
BP Fairs are a company that regularly hold large fairs. There's one today if you live near Sandown Racecourse.

I'm not sure I understand - she wants toys that she had in the 90s to keep now, as an adult? Or she wants to buy some of the same toys, but it's OK if they are new, as long as they are the same as the 90s? Lego does a very good line of 90s castle and space sets, glow in the dark ghost and all.

What does she want them for?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 06/09/2025 14:10

Has she tried Etsy? Lots of vintage polly pockets on there.

RaraRachael · 06/09/2025 16:39

@JustGoClickLikeALightSwitch @MolkosTeenageAngst she would have liked to have passed on some of her favourite childhood toys to her daughter.
When she moved away, they were kept in the loft. Now when her father is moving house, they've disappeared so she is trying to buy them back again.

Sorry @MolkosTeenageAngst didn't mean to tag you but can't seem to remove it

nothing to add but I wish I had my Cindy salon, polly pockets including polly pocket jewellery box, the small pets from a magazine (pet in my pocket?), my cabbage patch doll and the dolls that were scented that transformed into a cupcake, and the fairy that you wind up to fly.

JoshLymanSwagger · 06/09/2025 16:45

My mum and dad chucked out a full set of Chalet School books.
Yes.
I know.
🤦🏻‍♀️

@stillhiding1990 think you must be about the same age as her as those are all the ones she mentioned.
Oh the Skydancer! She once flew it too near the glass lampshade and it smashed 😅

There's a vintage toy shop, collectables in Aberdeen opposite the side door of markies the wee passage through to Union st. ..up from Frigate bar.
Sorry don't know name of shop.

RaraRachael · 06/09/2025 17:31

Thanks @Gladysknightjustwalkinmyshoes will tell her to have a look as she's very close to Aberdeen

Laura95167 · 06/09/2025 17:31

You know this will be expensive right?

RaraRachael · 06/09/2025 17:33

It's up to her if she thinks it's too expensive she won't buy them

I've just got my DD's Barbies etc out of the roof. Some of the dolls have gone mouldy. They were stored in plastic drawers. No idea why some have got it and others haven't but your DD's may have suffered the same

Can't get rid of the mould so up the tip I'm afraid

Hope your DD finds what she's looking for

Needmorelego · 06/09/2025 17:52

@RaraRachael there's a toy fair in Aberdeen in a couple of weeks time.

This is actually more shocking.

RaraRachael · 06/09/2025 18:06

My mother threw out everything sister and I had as children so J made sure that didn't happen with mine.
Unfortunately her father is an arse who probably did it deliberately
