Iwishicouldflyhigh · 03/09/2025 12:56

But it’s ok because she was just badly advised.
I’ll remember that excuse next time I fill in my tax return.

But still confused about one can have 2 main homes?

The nerve of her turning on the waterworks and using her disabled child to get sympathy
She cried because the wonderful Beth Rigby got to her.

PropertyD · 04/09/2025 10:34

Its a real shame that two of the most powerful women in the country have let women down by being completely shite at their roles and turning on the waterworks/using disabled children as a reason for crying.

Reeves did similar but said it was a 'personal' reason - yeah right. She cried because she is useless at her role and has been found out.

FGS - get a grip both of you. AR needs to leave with some dignity otherwise it will get worse and worse for her and her mucky private life will unravel

Plus they both sneer and attack anyone and everyone and only turn in the tears when found out / realise they’re failing.

LovelyLuluu · 04/09/2025 10:39

Just for the record, when anyone sets up a Trust for their children, they (the parents) can be trustees, along with anyone else they appoint.

The 'trust' is not some entity completely separate from the parents.

A Trust can also be used as a means of avoiding IHT.
However, if the parents continue to live in it at all, that is called a Gift of Entitlement, and HMRC can decide to include that benefit in IHT later down the line.

She received, as far as we know, 25% of the value of the house (quoted elsewhere as around £625K.) But that's not accounting for what she received as part of their divorce settlement.

LovelyLuluu · 04/09/2025 10:42

She will not resign as her career will be over, other than working for Unite.
Nor will she be sacked.
She will limp on because even in the inquiry finds her 'careless' Keir won't sack her.

Searching4Alpha · 04/09/2025 09:36

I wish AR no ill will but I think stepping down would be the honourable course of action.

Honourable? Yes, it would be. But she doesn't have an 'honourable' bone in her body. The only way she'll go is if Starmer sacks her or tells her that she can either resign first, or he will sack her. She ain't going anywhere otherwise.

Unite don’t want her since she advocated for fire and rehire during the Birmingham bin stikes. She’s not even a member of Unite anymore afaik

Lets hope the investigation is concluded quickly for all sides.

If the Ethics Committee whitewashes this they are finished too.

The Telegraph arent going to let this lie if the committee say that AR did have advice but it was largely verbal and she misunderstood what was said - as Housing Minister with potentially three properties all of which seem to have been used for AR's benefit re Council Tax, primary residence, she needs to understand the rules. She is surrounded by people she could have asked.

Does the PM see the results of the report before anyone else? I presume so as it enables the usual letters of resignation because their issue is becoming a distraction etc etc to be written in advance.

Anjo2011 · 04/09/2025 10:51

Im hoping to see a sacked or resigned statement sooner rather than later. I think she’s not told the whole truth and it’s all snowballed. She has to go.

She will hang on until the bitter end just like Reeves.

TizerorFizz · 04/09/2025 10:19

She will just have to sell the £800,000 flat then, won’t she! Go and live in her constituency! Not at the other end of the country. Who would think living near Brighton so far from her DC was a good idea anyway? The whole thing is very odd. When does she see her disabled child?

Will the constituency want her though?

I just looked it up and last time she got a majority of just 6,791 from an electorate of 71,002 on a 49.9% turnout, which doesn't sound especially secure to me

Aah so you recommend not getting specialist advice as its all easy and straight forward? Ok then

Someone who claims to have the intelligence to run this country as the PM can figure out what tax they need pay on a house purchase. If she can’t manage this, she is out of her depth.

PropertyD · 04/09/2025 10:57

I have heard that AR is looking for another constituency. She doesnt live in her current one! That is never a good look.

Today apparently according to Times radio.

It doesn’t take long to show the fictitious ‘bad advice’ from three people or not as more likely.

Nice bit of misogyny there.

Did Boris Johnson let down men by being a lying sleezebag? Or just himself?

Noras · 04/09/2025 11:02

I think that tax rules are too complicated and even professionals mess it up. This is an indication of an over elaborate and complicated tax system. That is what needs reform.

I don’t like Angela but in this instance feel that it’s wrong and unjust to have such a go at her. She is doing what any parent of a disabled child would do.

PropertyD · 04/09/2025 11:02

Eastern - today?? They are going to conclude today?

Having said that you would have the written evidence already wouldnt you re who and what was told to you by the lawyers.

Look through your emails, files, post. It would be your highest priority overnight and this morning.

LovelyLuluu · 04/09/2025 11:02

Oh and now Rachel R has piled in playing the 'disabled card' to try to drum up support.
How low will they stoop?

CrostaDiPizza · 04/09/2025 11:03

But Johnson is an OE who spouts Latin, AR is northern and working class.
Johnson's messy private life could be overlooked, but AR is condemned for hers.

You’ve been hoodwinked by a story. She’s admitted she owes £40k. It’s not that complicated, posters have shown it with a quick post on these threads.

Disgusting isn't it? But it's also desperate and pathetic. These are the entitled, greedy hypocrites we have running this country. No wonder it's in such a mess.

You are conflating too many things.

A parent of a disabled child may choose to set up a trust fund although you have to have enough money to do that. Trusts are complicated.

But setting up a trust for a disabled child and not being open with your tax, or worse trying to evade tax, isn't a necessary part of this surely?

If lawyer has 'messed up' they will be reported to the Law Society and the necessary steps taken. It's highly unlikely she was mis-advised.

Fraudornot · 04/09/2025 11:05

@Norasmost parents of disabled children don’t have access to a lump sum to do this. AR was vocal during the benefits cuts saying she wanted all children like her son to be able to work - knowing full well if his benefits were cut to nothing and he couldn’t work he would be fine.

This surely isnt what a parent would do?

Move 100's of miles away from her children and her constituency? She did it because she now has a new life with an on/off relationship and took money out of her child's trust to enable her to start again and buy a luxury flat.

As a real working class single parent to a disabled child I can assure you I have never used my sons disability for personal gain, tried to bend the system every chance I get, moved hundreds of miles away from my child to live with my on/off boyfriend and then turned on the waterworks when I got found out 😂
