Vomit inducing rhetoric from ‘Labour’

OneKookyShark · 02/09/2025 17:49

Utterly utterly grim 🤮 and trying to out reform Reform and betraying everything Labour stands for at the same time. Not that this shower bear any resemblance to Labour values.

Aibu to think we can’t sink much lower as a country. I will vote for any socially progressive party that shows some vision and compassion.

Hmmm. No link there to flags on roundabouts. It would seem just as likely to be a wicked act of hatred by anti-Israel activists.

BTW, it obviously wouldn’t be any better were it to come from the Jew-hating far-right or the loathsome anti-Israel faction. They’re all antisemites.

Its all part of the same thuggery, they may have different targets, but the message is of hate

Honestly for all this stuff I’ve seen on here (and in the papers) about flags, and I don’t think I’ve seen a single one.

Which makes me assume it’s mainly media hysteria.

Loads of them across Herts, Beds, Cambs.

It happened on the same night as alot of graffiti of "patriotic" ilk. I'd find it quite the coincidence if two sets of organised twat suddenly picked the same night for their "righteous activism".

CarterBeatsTheDevil · 02/09/2025 21:33

But what else are they supposed to say? It's the national flag. There's no law against putting it up. How would it look if the government of this country told people not to fly its flag?

Edt: I am not in favour of festooning motorways and roundabouts with the national flag, I just understand why Labour can't really say anything other than "there's nothing wrong with flying one".

Nowhere in that article is any connection made with other activity on the same night.

I’m happy to agree that flag daubers might be responsible. But I’m equally inclined to think that ‘pro-Pal’ arseholes got busy with brushes or spray paints.

Reading between the lines I think our local rag is trying to keep a very fragile peace at the moment.

I think alot is going unreported.

MistressoftheDarkSide · 02/09/2025 21:46

Also, think about it. We have two factions with beef against Israel / the Jewish people at the moment. The far right and the pro-Palestinians. It would play into the far right hands to point the finger at the pro-Palestinians or the Muslim community. It's a bloody mess whichever way you slice it. Chuck in the local vigilante group and we have a potential recipe for disaster.

I think its best to let this populist aspect fade away with the changing seasons

I hesitated to post this, @sleepwouldbenice, but:

Not even going to look...Angry
Idid have some stupid Ebay advert coming up suggesting I might want a flag a reform sign or a cut out of Farage (or Fearage as my autocorrect tried to just say....algorithm very broken and wrong there!Confused

TempestTost · 02/09/2025 22:14

Saying people should go for it with the flags is totally the correct response. Legitimising it as a normal national symbol like it is in most countries is the best solution to people using it badly.

Trying to suppress it would be the worst approach possible.

I have seen 3 flags in total in Beds.Weird, since Tommy R lives here.

What...they are everywhere!

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2025 21:37

Not going to out ourselves obviously but I am in mid Beds and have seen three (well maybe 5). None in the village I live in, none in the parts of Bedford I've been to , 3 , perhaps a few more, on a roundabout by a large new estate, and a limp one hanging from a lamppost by a Waitrose !

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2025 21:38

Judging by your name you are in a different (actually far more multicultural) area.

From Luton but now live "further north"! I was surprised by how many I saw on my way to work today.

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2025 22:03

Well, I don't think I'm extremely unobservant! I do keep being told by someone that there are loads in the town beginning with F but I haven't seen them...

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2025 22:04

I always thought what typified Beds, until Nadine pissed them all off, was apathy and complacency.

hattie43 · 04/09/2025 22:10

I don’t actually know who Labour stand for .
The working class hate them over immigration
The middle class hate them because they’re determined to bankrupt them
Anyone else just hates them .

I wouldn't have said that!

Piggywaspushed · 04/09/2025 22:13

Ha, well I grew up in Red Clydeside so it's all relative I guess!

Tiredofwhataboutery · 04/09/2025 22:17

I have said YABU, not because I’m wildly racist but because I think it is completely outrageous that the national flag of a country should of somehow become a taboo piece of embarrassment.

Does any other country in the world have this much soul searching over their national flag?

Claim it back, hang it everywhere. If it’s hanging from every public building I think it’ll lose its niche racist association. Lots of flag waving racists in the U.S. but they tend to go conderate flag.

It’s interesting - I am Welsh but I live in England.

Someone painted the George cross on a roundabout in wales and it did cause absolute outrage (obviously there is a massive load of irony about that too given this flag thing has been all about nationalism and yet someone thought it ok to paint it in another country but let’s not get into that) but in wales our flag flies everywhere without the same connotations of the far right. Same in Scotland.

I envy you

Here, south coast, we've had graffiti, both red crosses and swastikas, flags being attached to traffic lights and other road furniture regardless of the danger, people being called traitors for saying they dont like them or saying theu are not hanging a flag, protests weekly outside a hotel containing women and children, local fb groups overridden with raise the flags posts and people being booted out of groups for trying to argue the case against it.

Its very depressing - I cant go down my road without seeing it.

Swastikas?? 😬
