Vomit inducing rhetoric from ‘Labour’

OneKookyShark · 02/09/2025 17:49

Utterly utterly grim 🤮 and trying to out reform Reform and betraying everything Labour stands for at the same time. Not that this shower bear any resemblance to Labour values.

Aibu to think we can’t sink much lower as a country. I will vote for any socially progressive party that shows some vision and compassion.

I think its best to let this populist aspect fade away with the changing seasons

I hesitated to post this, @sleepwouldbenice, but:

Cooper and Starmer have gone from ‘refugees welcome’ to industrial warehouses and stopping women and children claiming

Yes. And it is disgusting. And I do feel "shafted" right now, and politically homeless.

You see. I agree. The narrative that the MN "Labour lot" are intellectually challenged sheep is wrong, even though some posters like to claim it is true.

‘Politically homeless’ - Someone outlined the approach of the new greens today have you seen it? It actually sounded clear and made sense, I mean it might not be possible but it’s coherent. And at least they’re not raging hypocrites who spin on a dime.

😳

There's capitalism for you. Which, IMHO is a big part of the problem in its current neoliberalism guise. Oh my days.....

And on that sort of note, as @EmeraldRoulette touched on, given the revenue that is generated via controversial reporting / "content" we're on a pretty sticky wicket in every direction.

That mountain / forest is looking more appealing by the second.....

Have the Greens finally decided to become a mature party which has effective policies to deal with climate change, including the construction of nuclear power stations and high speed rail lines?

Or are they still fussing about pronouns and taking a BANANA (Build Absolutely Nothing Anywhere Near Anybody) approach to infrastructure that would reduce emissions?

I can’t recall where the post is but it’s from an interview today. The reputation is crank and pronouns but I’d be interested to know what people oppose in their first stab at an approach.

Well If it’s a choice between the Greens with their flaws and Labour with theirs I would go for the Greens every single time. Labour’s current flaws (sounding more and more like the BNP in 1992 and aiding in a genocide as well) are a billion times worse than the timidity of the Greens

The trouble is if Council’s all start legal action against the hotels up & down the Country they are going to have to find somewhere to put the Asylum Seekers!

I cheered when they closed the Bibi Stockholm but they are having their hand forced!

I’m incredibly disappointed with this Government but I can see that they are between a rock and a hard place!

I’m hoping they can get on top of the situation & start to do some of the things I want them to do. .

we need investment in the UK, we’re not going to get that with a load of thugs draped in flags hanging about outside hotels everyday!

The govt have committed themselves to moving asylum seekers from hotels anyway.

Yes by the end of this term but if the Courts start giving them 30 days to empty hotels up & down the Country that is going to cause all sorts of bother!

Starmer referred to doing it “further and faster” yesterday. Whatever that means.

I’m not defending the language, I hate it but I sort of understand their predicament!

That is not what I am saying at all. I certainly don't think the media should be pretending everything is fine and dandy, if that is what you are suggesting.

Eta: it is a shame you felt the need to have a bit of a pop. We might actually be in agreement about some things.

Edited

I wasn’t having a pop, in the sense of being disagreeable for the sake of it. I’m sure we’d agree on plenty of things that open-minded, reasonable people can agree on.

But you said:

I think the media is absolutely piling on the doom and gloom and ramping up the notion of civil unrest etc. I wish it could be a bit more bloody responsible.

I don’t think the media is particularly responsible for disillusion with the government or, flag-wise, that it’s egging people on. Plenty of the media supports the government (not uncritically) and condemns Geoff and his mates from the public bar up the Red Lion for painting over mini-roundabouts.

The media can do wrong, sure; but the media is all too often a convenient scapegoat for failing government, national or local.

Vague platitudes are his forte aren’t they?

Smashin’ the gangs
Fixin’ the foundations
Fillin’ the black hole

What an utter plonker.

Honestly for all this stuff I’ve seen on here (and in the papers) about flags, and I don’t think I’ve seen a single one.

Which makes me assume it’s mainly media hysteria.

Don't you go out of the house?

My tiny market town's been painted, the villages have been painted, the A-roads are red & white striped, the city's been painted. Some of our 'artwork' made it into the papers, as the nationalist geniuses got it wrong and painted the Danish flag 🙄

The more out-of-the-way ones are now being decorated with noughts & crosses or funny faces, but it's unlikely to happen in the towns as everybody sees everything round here - and you wouldn't want to anger the presumed St George fans.

Where do you live. Loads near me plus all the mini roundabouts painted.

Lutonsgirl · 02/09/2025 21:08

They’re everywhere where in the town I work in - definitely not media hype 🙁

I envy you

Here, south coast, we've had graffiti, both red crosses and swastikas, flags being attached to traffic lights and other road furniture regardless of the danger, people being called traitors for saying they dont like them or saying theu are not hanging a flag, protests weekly outside a hotel containing women and children, local fb groups overridden with raise the flags posts and people being booted out of groups for trying to argue the case against it.

Its very depressing - I cant go down my road without seeing it.

Swastikas… really??? Haven’t seen any media coverage of those..

MistressoftheDarkSide · 02/09/2025 21:19

I know it's not directly relevant, but I'm watching the governer of Illinois giving an address about Trump starting to move troops and ICE into Chicago. He's not in favour by the way.

If that's not a sign of how mad the world is getting, I don't know what is.

My concerns for the UK are that if protests from either side get big enough or disruptive enough, we'll see similar authoritarian push back. And being the cynic that I am, I suspect there will be agitators acting in bad faith just to ramp it all up. I really hope I'm wrong.

Ah shit 😞

Things I never thought I'd see in my lifetime.

I wonder how much is going unreported out of fear / not wanting to fan the flames.
