To be surprised by the number of people who only seem to care about taking pictures of themselves?

I’m in Rome and spent the day walking around all of the various tourist sites. Everywhere, even in the Vatican city, people only care about taking selfies. Not looking at the information around them. Not taking pictures of the actual sights and historical monuments. Just pouting selfies and videos of them walking. It’s doing my head in!

Well you most likely don’t care about those people much then. When I see photos on fb of people I care about or are interested in, I’m mostly looking at those people in the photos. No a random snap of the sea or fields- those mean nothing to me and photos rarely do any view or landscape justice anyway.

Chances are those are people I see a lot or at least often enough to know what they look like. Photos of anyone in a pool or posing in a generic restaurant aren't going to be interesting. Maybe 1 or 2 of the kids jumping in the pool.

But if they are somewhere I've never been and they've got out and about and seen some interesting places that's going to be far more interesting to me than pictures of themselves.

Had this on holiday a few weeks ago. Two mothers having a full on photo shoot and video shoot with their children at the pool. Kids just wanted to jump in the pool but the parents spent a full 20 minutes directing and choreographing what the kids should do and insisted the kids keep repeating the same "action" shots and poses with one parent physically showing them how to run towards the camera. It was quite entertaining to watch but also embarrassing and sad.

I understand wanting to have some flattering photos of yourself/your family on holiday but as previous posters have already mentioned spending 20 minutes getting your partner to take multiple photos whilst repeatedly changing your pose/lighting/filters etc etc whilst a queue of people wanting one quick snap builds up behind you just seems pretty selfish. I witnessed this multiple times on holiday this year and I’m sure it was worse than ever before.
Also the fake posed photos annoy me too - the ‘look at me whilst I browse this market completely unaware I’m being photographed’ type of photo. But you’re not actually browsing the market, you’re just pretending to while your long suffering partner snaps away repeatedly changing the filter etc. Ok maybe I can understand this if you’re an influencer and it’s your job to produce this sort of image. Still annoying if you’re just trying to actually browse the market though and have to wait til they’re done 😂
