Posture

I’m really conscious of developing bad posture. I do have a sedentary job day at a desk and do sometimes find myself in that horrible postmotion of slumped shoulders and chin out. I catch myself there sometimes and immediately correct it. I do exercise to try to stay strong and stand tall when I’m walking (which I do lots of).

however whenever I wake up in the night (ie several times a night) I find myself on my side with my chin jutting out. It’s clearly become my body’s resting position 😬😬😬

AIBU to be horrified by this and please help how can I avoid it / fix it.

thanks!

It’s great to are aware of it so can try to take some positive steps. What type of exercise are you currently doing? Can you lay flat on your back on the floor with no pillow? This is good to check in with to help everything reset to neutral. Many people I see have lost this and it’s really hard to regain it.

For this reason Pilates is really good as many exercises are laid down. All over strengthening will help… mirror at the gym or take up ballet where you can also become aware of where ‘upright’ actually is (even if it feel odd to begin with). Most of the yoga teachers I know have excellent posture so I think yoga is also good long term.
