I need help but nobody is giving it to me

Who have you asked?
Have you been to the GP and AA? If you google the name of your council and alcohol service you will be able to find a list of service providers in your area, have you contacted them?

Clychaugog · 29/08/2025 15:52

What sort of help are you looking for?

HelloHattie · 29/08/2025 17:18

Where have you tried?

weegiemum · 29/08/2025 18:19

There are a few different threads on this under “Health” I think, where people who want to moderate or stop altogether support each other. Might be worthwhile looking at one or more of them and asking for some pointers to help.

I hope you find the help you need, it’s a very lonely place you’re in right now xx

wordywitch · 29/08/2025 18:21

There is a lot of help out there, what have you actually tried?

EmeraldShamrock000 · 29/08/2025 18:22

Turn up to your nearest AA meeting, join on zoom, they'll help you decide if you need medical care while detoxing.
Ultimately no-one can help you before you start help yourself.
You need to show up.

mindutopia · 29/08/2025 18:33

There is absolutely support out there, but no one can do it for you. I was drinking heavily for 20 years. Now 2.5 years sober. The person who helped me was….me! If you need support with detox, you will need to push for it with your GP or local alcohol service. But otherwise, as simplistic as it sounds, the only one who can stop drinking is you. If you want it, you have to fight for it. But there are people who will support you along the way. I’d start by going to AA. It may not ultimately be for you, but it’s a start in the right direction. You might also try SMART recovery or seek out an online group or community. Just go. It will be weird at first, but just get yourself there and listen. It’s better for you than drinking and will boost your confidence that you really can do it (you can!).

Go on the alcohol threads here, under Health OP. They are supportive and will help.
If you want help and are ready to change that’s a massive step, so well done.
drank too much, got lots of support from the alcohol board, and now never drink more than the weekly guidelines. I quit completely for over 9 months, and it was hard, but so worth it. Good luck. Remember, no one can do this for you. You can’t do it because someone wants you to. You do it for yourself.

That's an excuse and you know it!

Go to your gp! www.nhs.uk/live-well/alcohol-advice/

Go to AA, https://www.alcoholics-anonymous.org.uk/

You've done really well to realise that you need help but you also need to help yourself!!

Theres also a dedicated mumsnet page where you'll find other people in your situation who really can offer support and help https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/alcohol_support

You really can do this and there is help everywhere, look in the right places.

Good luck ❤️
