To think that surely Rayner has to go.

Well well well.

So now it emerges that Rayner rearranged her property affairs and declared to HMRC that her new flat in Brighton is her main residence and saved £40k on the SDLT bill as a result.

She has then apparently declared to the local councils the complete opposite.

I'm sure slimeball Kier will defend and say it was perfectly legal blah blah blah.

Not to mention she has a grace and favour house funded by tax payers in London as her constituency office is so far away. Yet she 'lives' in Brighton - surely she could just commute that distance like may others do every day.

Surely she has to go.

People were predicting Angela would see Keir off and become prime minister not so long ago.

Sorry, you mean the ‘Tory scum’ barb, offended some on the right?

Well I never.

I think she will knife Reeves when the budget proves to be a calamity.

I don’t think she’s thick either. I think she knows that in 3 or 4 years time she’ll be an opposition backbencher at best and unemployed at worst so she’s grasping what she can as quickly as she can.

I mean she doesn’t give a toss. She only thinks of herself, not the electorate, not Starmer and certainly not Reeves.

Timeforabitofpeace · 29/08/2025 17:23

I think that there is a huge list of utterly dodgy bastards as politician, and near fascists. Any concerns I would have about Rayner would be will down the list but i Imagine those near the top and their supporters would be keen to smear her more.

TheNuthatch · 29/08/2025 17:29

How is Rayner planning to serve her constituents in the North West if she lives in Hove?

Did anyone care before? Gavin Williamson was the MP for the consistency I taught in when we went into lockdown. He gave us fuck all guidance!

Edit: he was education minister at the time!

BIossomtoes · 29/08/2025 17:36

Nobody seems to give a shit that Farage spends half his time in the US. It’s a long way from Clacton - and parliament, come to that.

Sorry I don't understand how that has any relevance to what I asked.

You asked how how a MP could serve outside their constituency living elsewhere. Gavin Williamson lived in his constituency and ruined education for many. I don’t think a MP living near you equals better help.

TheNuthatch · 29/08/2025 17:40

Just had a look on maps. It's 261 miles, or over 4 hours driving each way. Literally the opposite end of the country.

To think that surely Rayner has to go.

It's only 260 miles away not on the moon

Expect she will hold constituency surgeries Friday and Saturday/during recess - just like other MPs do

Will you condemn Rayner for doing the same?

Don't be ridiculous

Many people are very concerned about him and the impact he has had/has on politics. Not spending time in his constituency or in the HOP is the least of the concerns

How do you think Westminster MPs from the Northern Isles represent their constituents which are about 900 miles away and actually the real 'opposite end of the country'?

BIossomtoes · 29/08/2025 17:45

It’s three hours on the train and a four hour drive from London. Given that she spends Monday to Thursday in London anyway, I can’t see the problem. Particularly as she gets driven and can work on the journey however she travels.

Why would I? She’s not a frequent flyer to the US.

So you'll criticise Farage, but not Rayner. Different rules for Labour.

I suspect her constituents will take a different view.

Yes obviously. If Rayner was as derelict in her duties as Farage I’d say the same. But she’s not so I won’t.

You’re missing the point
@TheNuthatch s map was the journey to Brighton !!!! her new home!

suburburban · 29/08/2025 17:57

It disgusts me especially when her useless colleague RR is dreaming up ways to exhort money out of modest income property owners

Efacsen · 29/08/2025 17:59

Doesn't answer my question as to how MPs from much further away than Greater Manchester manage to represent their constituents

And you have no idea about how 'her constituents' think/feel expect that they probably won't notice if she continues to hold surgeries as before
