To think that surely Rayner has to go.

Well well well.

So now it emerges that Rayner rearranged her property affairs and declared to HMRC that her new flat in Brighton is her main residence and saved £40k on the SDLT bill as a result.

She has then apparently declared to the local councils the complete opposite.

I'm sure slimeball Kier will defend and say it was perfectly legal blah blah blah.

Not to mention she has a grace and favour house funded by tax payers in London as her constituency office is so far away. Yet she 'lives' in Brighton - surely she could just commute that distance like may others do every day.

Surely she has to go.

Its not about hating working class people that don't stay in their lane 🙄

Labour are meant to be the party to help working class people and the party that supports a in society. Not the party that supports tax loopholes for the wealthier in our society, The Tories do not make these claims

AR has always spoken out about this, its an area I have always very much agreed with her about

Yep like this

To think that surely Rayner has to go.

How different would you say this Labour government is to the New Labour years?

I know! Have we gone back to the Victorian age?

You really don’t
Personally I think the personal attacks on here are uncalled for.

It’s not a personal attack. HTH.

HRTQueen · 29/08/2025 15:29

What has AR achievements got to do with her taking advantage of tax loopholes, that she has always openly despised (and rightly so) got anything to do with her being right or wrong

Yet you immediately belittled me while knowing nothing about me and refused to accept that other Northern women can be more successful than Angela Rayner.

Exactly. It's stinks of hypocracy.

How do you get to be more successful than the Deputy Prime Minister? Other than being the actual Prime Minister? That’s hardly belittling, it’s factual.

twistyizzy · 29/08/2025 15:03

Yep. Northern born and bred and like I said, she doesn't represent me and she will never be held up as a role model here.

Same

New Labour were a better managed party that the current party is. With Campbell managing the PR and the excellent skills Blair had connecting with the people, Starmer do not have this and personality matters in politics. . A statement would be out be now I am quite sure about that

They had more direction, more certainty of their policies but also not dealing with a country that is in such a mess as it is now. Far stronger cabinet too

Of course they made policy mistakes and they had their fair share of scandals this goes hand in hand with politics

justasking111 · 29/08/2025 15:36

Starmer is impotent in who is in his cabinet it seems. Do the unions pull his strings? I'm beginning to wonder.

They also didn't target MC and use them as cash cows and scapegoats

It's her hypocracy that is the issue here. She's very vocally anti establishment, anti middle class, anti "tax dodgers", etc., and yet she does the same herself. THAT's the problem.

Same with Diane Abbot being against private schools but sending her child to one. (and lots of other similar examples!).

It really is Animal Farm! Everyone's equal but some are more equal than others!

Edited

Well it’s this or Labour MPs in council housing that they can’t really claim to need.

Housing is in a mess, and there are no good optics for anybody currently with a ‘grace and favour’ home.

Blackrock pull his strings. Fabian Society pull other strings.
Fundamentally though he is just out of his depth and doesn't have the skills for the job.

She is in the role as Labour need to keep certain members of the party happy

She has not done her years of work as an MP to get to this position, she isn't highly respected for her intelligence, negotiating skills and certainly not for being able to deal with heavy debates or questioning though she has improved. She is respected (or was) for her achievements and her understanding of how many struggle in life when they do not have the opportunities that even a little wealth often brings

She is not PM in waiting but I have no doubt she would have put herself forward,

She is no John Prescott

The country is in completely different situation now to what it was in 1997

Not that I agree with every decision Labour is making

HerewardtheSleepy · 29/08/2025 15:42

Why should she go? Compared to an average member of the last five Tory Governments she is a model of honesty and probity.

Anyway, I wouldn't hang a dog on the basis of a report in the Daily Telegraph. That paper lost all credibility when Max Hastings stood down as Editor.

Ah so that means MC are acceptable targets now? Bleed them dry whilst deriding them for all of the ills of society?

MyNameIsX · 29/08/2025 15:51

I think Rayner is a toxic combination of thick, ambitious, avaricious, hypocritical, and spiteful.

It depends on how you define success. No one would consider Keir Starmer to be the most successful man in the UK so why apply the same rationale to Angela Rayner?

A gentle reminder of our statesmanlike Deputy PM.

IwanttotakeyoutoaNailaBar · 29/08/2025 15:57

But half the reason Labour got in was due to the Tory sleaze/hypocrisy/ lies perceptions. (The other half being they had been in too long and ran out of steam).

We all know individual politicians are human and will be no different to the other side. It’s pretty poor to not react differently as a party though.
Also why not be transparent? “ I bought a home as I’m divorcing / separating “ plays differently to “ I have loads of money so investing in another house and using any loopholes to my advantage”

Plantatreetoday · 29/08/2025 15:59

Agree @SeagullSam2027

The role of PM is important but not a marker of being the most successful person in the country

that’s a very basic understanding
