To think that surely Rayner has to go.

Blankscreen · 29/08/2025 09:33

Well well well.

So now it emerges that Rayner rearranged her property affairs and declared to HMRC that her new flat in Brighton is her main residence and saved £40k on the SDLT bill as a result.

She has then apparently declared to the local councils the complete opposite.

I'm sure slimeball Kier will defend and say it was perfectly legal blah blah blah.

Not to mention she has a grace and favour house funded by tax payers in London as her constituency office is so far away. Yet she 'lives' in Brighton - surely she could just commute that distance like may others do every day.

Surely she has to go.

You must be as sad as the Labour lot were when Truss went, get it right ;

Edited

Was anyone sad to see Truss go? Apart from her, obviously.

You got it. That’s how sad many will be about Rayner.

Janiie · 05/09/2025 09:28

BIossomtoes · 05/09/2025 09:14

You’re sad? You’re absolutely revelling in this.

No I'm not sad obviously. Sadly for her she didn't wait.

Why on earth a senior politician was unaware of this widely well known fact regarding a dc needing to be 18 to be legally and financially independent though is quite concerning.

I think everyone should sue for misdiagnosis or medical negligence, nhs insurance covers it. Lessons are apparently learnt when hcps have to answer for their incompetence.

What I do not agree with is using a child's disability in a media interview in any way to try and garner sympathy to excuse a mistake because it is 'complex'. Yep many with disabled relatives know life is complex. Many others with 'complex' lives made themselves ill worrying about Labour reforms.

We can all put property in trust for our kids but obviously whilst under 18 their finances remain the parent's legal responsibility. How on earth didn't she know that?

and she voted for PIP “reforms”- which includes adults like her child one day will be who will rely on PIP just so feed himself not live life of luxury. Theres a lot of things wrong with that woman, starting with lack of empathy and morals.

Agreed. She'll be gone by next week. She's either incompetent or dishonest; or both.

This. If the report says she misled the tax office, she needs to go. Any MP caught fiddling, should go, regardless of party.

Yeah, I got the implication, but you explicitly referenced Labour supporters so it seemed you thought it was only partisan sadness.

Ok not really that deep. Some will be very happy to see Rayner go, particularly since she was so vocal on others. No one has to feel ‘sad’ they can be delighted as some were for others going.

DenizenOfAisleOfShame · 05/09/2025 08:55

We don’t know anything about the disabled child, causes, liability, what might have been accepted or denied by the NHS.

I really don’t think anyone should try to poke around in that.

All I’ll say is that there is a trust and AR should have managed her affairs accordingly. She didn’t, on her own admission. For a loudly outspoken scourge of Tory misconduct she looks very foolish and will, I think, have to go.

She’s a busted flush now.

Her baby survived being born at 23 weeks (!) with whats considered mild complications which are expected due to gestational age at birth. She left the hospital with a child unlike 70pcnt of mums whos babies born in that week dont. She should be thankful not go suing taxpayers/NHS

Puzzledandpissedoff · 05/09/2025 09:51

NHS trusts all have indemnity insurance specifically to avoid taxpayers’ money being awarded in compensation claims

The other thread closed before I could post this, @Blossomtoes, but it doesn't work quite like that because the costs of the compensation scheme are met via the contributions of the members ... in other words the NHS Trusts whose money does indeed come from the taxpayers

BIossomtoes · 05/09/2025 08:53

Well it’s an issue she’ll only face for another year because Rayner’s disabled son is now 17 and his finances will become his own legal responsibility next year. At which point she’ll quite legitimately be able to reclaim the second property stamp duty excess because it will be inside the three year window.

Yes, although I think that might only true be if he has capacity, and I don't think its appropriate for anyone to start speculating on that.

No, it really isn’t deep at all - you made a mild joke, I made a mild joke.

ohdelay · 05/09/2025 10:01

Politician is grabby, tax avoiding and hypocritical is not news, especially now. A lot of senior politicians come out of office significantly richer than they went in and in ways that can't be explained by their salaries and official packages. No one is genuinely surprised she's a bit corrupt and none of these house transactions and moves are that recent.
She's obviously being used as a distraction from the crashing economy, migrant protests, lack of global influence and fact that 5 armed police arrested someone at the airport for tweets. This isn't me supporting her, just recognising her for the attention diverting sacrifice she is.

Please can you stop with this speculation. It’s extremely distasteful and triggering for people who experienced stillbirth and or early birth. If that was your experience too then I’m sorry for you but this is a thread about politics.

That’s the point the two aren’t comparable yet people are saying what AR did is the most immoral thing they’ve seen in their lifetime (read the post!!), which is ridiculous and disgusting.

Edited

I’d say theft from your disabled sons trust fun is at the top of my list
especially when you’re using your son to get sympathy

The news yesterday was suggesting the investigation should be complete before the weekend. So perhaps Starmer will announce something over the weekend or later today
To avoid too much heat in the immediate aftermath at PMQs

CarrotVan · 05/09/2025 11:34

sounds like the tax implications on the parents of their child’s trust owning property should have been explained when the trust was established and again when her share of the property was sold to the trust.

Janiie · 05/09/2025 11:39

'Politician is grabby, tax avoiding and hypocritical is not news, especially now'

She has set herself up as some kind of beacon of how to behave properly. Non of that scummy, grabby behaviour from her. It is by the book Angela.

She is either thick or trying to get away with not paying tax and neither is a good look for a deputy PM. Whatever the ethics person finds she should still go.

I don’t think there was any other way this was going to end - whatever the intention / reasons, her position was becoming untenable.

Badbadbunny · 05/09/2025 12:08

Rachel next hopefully to draw a line under the utterly disastrous first year of Labour. Get some competent people in the top roles.

Ihateboris · 05/09/2025 12:11

I hate to say "I told you so" but......🤣🤣🤣🤣

All that cackling and mocking the Conservatives and look what a fool she's made of herself.

Ihateboris · 05/09/2025 12:15

How's she going to pay her mortgage now? A book? Maybe she'll do I'm a Celebrity..Get me out of here?
