They’re literally nothing shady at all - they’re landscapes!

Ok I’m seeing this one, and this one only.

Its a slightly hazy view of a tree with a breakwater behind.

Istilldontlikeolives · 28/08/2025 18:33

Nice. It has a vintage feel to it.

ScurryfungeSpuddle · 28/08/2025 18:38

Photography is a fascinating hobby and great for getting out and about!

Do you have any photography clubs near you? There are quite a few in my area that can be found on Facebook.

Now to answer your question 'What do you think?'

I can only see one photo and it's of a lovely view but just looks like any other slightly hazy holiday snap.

That doesn't mean you shouldn't join a club though!

ETA: Oh I can see the others now too. Still have to say they just look like normal phone cam snaps.

mynameiscalypso · 28/08/2025 18:40

It’s a nice picture but I’m not sure the proportions are quite right - I’d have had a bit less sky (the rule of thirds)

LimbOnTheBranchBranchOnTheTreeTheTreeInTheBog · 28/08/2025 18:41

In all honesty they just look like average holiday snaps to me.

That said, I have some hobbies that I'm not great at but I still really enjoy them, so it doesn't really matter what me, or anyone else thinks as long as you're having fun.

Nice. It has a vintage feel to it.

Yes, they remind me of photos taken in the 70s/80s. Reminds me of looking through my old photo albums

Was just about to say this, they look like the photos of my childhood holidays minus actual children. I don’t know how you achieved the look but they have a vintage feel.

Oneborneverydecade · 28/08/2025 18:45

I agree, I like the vintage feel. They look considered, would just research the advice around not placing something like the lamppost in the centre etc

I quite like this one as it's more balanced.

I genuinely think you should look at some tutorials because the balance of the others is all wrong.

Also check the settings on your camera as they look rather washed out.

IllBeLookingAtTheMoon · 28/08/2025 18:49

They're nice, OP.
They are indeed like pleasant holiday vintage snaps.
Photography is a wonderful hobby. Your equipment does somewhat matter. I am not saying you have to rush out and buy a Leica:) but ebay sometimes has excellent replica ones for relatively cheap and it can be a lot of fun playing around with them.

Just don't spend your whole time watching to take the perfect shot and then come home with hardly any pictures. Also wasting your time and resources taking thousands hoping for a few lucky shots. A few moments to visualise and then use the viewfinder assuming you have one to correctly compose your shot are honestly worth everything, even with your cheapest disposable point and shoot holiday film camera.:)

WannabePhotographer · 28/08/2025 18:50

I use a Fujifilm camera.

but noted - I’ll probably sell it

Are you aware of the rule of thirds? Great simple theorybto follow for a brilliant photo

Pianoaholic · 28/08/2025 18:50

I like the one of the houses. The colours are lovely.
Not really so keen on the others tbh.
But if it's something that interests you, you should pursue it.

I’m not going to pursue something I’m crap at, so I’ll just sell the camera. It was a short lived dream

They are not really sharp, ie in focus.

WannabePhotographer · 28/08/2025 19:10

Sophue · 28/08/2025 19:08

They are not really sharp, ie in focus.

There’s a grain effect on them and they’re not sharpened, it’s supposed to give a vintage feel. But I take on board the criticism and I’ll give this one a miss

The bus stop one is nice. Have you got any with half a thumb over the lens?

LemonTwix · 28/08/2025 19:11

I think you’ve got a feel for colour but need to work on the composition. The rule of thirds, as other people have said, and not having lamp posts in the way. Also keep your main vertical lines perpendicular, not slanting.

Which photographers do you like? Make sure you study them, and work out what it is exactly about their photography that appeals to you, and make their work have impact.

backandforthup · 28/08/2025 19:13

The composure of your shots are all wrong as is the use of natural lighting. Enjoy your hobby but you don’t have a natural eye for this. Sorry.

SoftPillow · 28/08/2025 19:14

I like the vintage feel, there is also a nice stillness to them and I like the colours.

If you enjoy it there’s no need to be dramatic and sell the camera based on some random internet comments. I would suggest that you continue to take pictures that you enjoy and don’t worry about what anyone else thinks. Your style will change as your skills develop. Perhaps take a course and meet other people who share your passion. Enjoy yourself
