Everyone should move away from the cities

Hey everyone. Posting here for more discussion. I want to start a conversation that needs to be had. I've read a number of posts regarding families escaping the big cities for elsewhere and it's been an interesting read. I've used it for my own research too because honestly whilst living in a city has its perks, there is a big trade off regarding one's health, stress levels and community, amongst other things.

I read where village/rural communities across the UK are hostile to Londoners moving in - but it's going to be more of a thing and should be encouraged!

Essentially, I myself, and many other of my friends I've talked to, believe that living in a more village/rural setting is ideal, but we fear the unknown. We fear the reception from others and if we'll fit in here in the UK, which is fair enough but hear me out! I believe more people need to live in rural settings, go back to our roots, the way our ancestors lived.

Grow your own food! I'm telling you they'll be a time soon when such a skill will be vital. Sustain yourself and do not rely on the government to feed you. Please!

Learn to work with your hands! Whether that's sewing (like our mothers and grandmothers did), cooking from scratch, embroidery, hair making, etc etc there is something wonderful about seeing the fruits of your labour. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 "And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing."

Beneficial for you and your children If you have young children, I can't see anywhere better for them to grow up. To be surrounded by nature as God intended (God put Adam and Even in the garden of Eden). The learn life skills from young.

Please be kind in the comments, this is my view and I certainly welcome rebuttals and counter-arguments but do be respectful.

I live in a village and blinking hate it, I don't drive and there isn't any public transport, I have to rely on others to take me to the nearest town for me to either get the train or bus if I want to see friends or go to the cinema or to see a show for exampleI also have to rely on people to take me to the doctor's or dentist. For food shopping I do it online, unfortunately I cannot move back to the city which I desperately miss.

countbackfromten · 28/08/2025 22:59

Think I will stick to my atheist life, working in a hospital day in day out and living in London where I can visit green spaces by just walking down the road and use public transport and not have to worry when I go out about getting home.

And as I don’t believe in heaven, I don’t believe in hell. What I do believe in is trying to be a good person and do good in the world whilst I am here. Living in my city. Taking care of people.

Abraham, Issac and Jacob? Is that a boy band?

I am an atheist, as I imagine a fair few other MNetters are on this thread. You may as well be quoting stuff from the Harry Potter novels.

Your verses etc only frighten people who believe.

Don't worry there'll be women and children too. :)

It doesn't scare those that believe because they have assurance that they will enter heaven. Those words will only frighten those that do not believe. But that doesn't have to be you, you just have to believe, repent and live a righteous life. You won't be perfect because we're still in this world, but when Jesus Christ comes then you will be made perfect. Don't complicate God's word - it's so simple. It's satan who will have you 'believe' there's no God so as to take you down with him because his fate is sealed.

Word salad.

I agree. But i would say that to grow our own food, we would have to be very good at gardening, and be very clean with our gardens. My nan grows apples on a tree she never eats from.

TheWelshposter · 28/08/2025 23:03

No thanks, I'm not taking advice on where to live from an ancient book. Bonkers

Mewling · 28/08/2025 23:03

FastQuoter · 28/08/2025 22:49

You do not know what you are saying. Don't be deceived.

"There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and all the prophets in the kingdom of God, but you yourselves are thrown out."

"And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth."

"For, behold, the day cometh, that shall burn as an oven; and all the proud, yea, and all that do wickedly, shall be stubble: and the day that cometh shall burn them up, saith the LORD of hosts, that it shall leave them neither root nor branch."

I guess a fool really is right in his own eyes, eh OP?

You work in a hospital, so that means you see all sorts of illnesses, disabilities and more. Do you honestly 'believe' that that was just their fate and when they die that's it? They had to live a sorry life on Earth and then die, and then that's it?

With God, there's hope for eternal bliss with him if ONLY you believe that Jesus came down on earth to die for your sins. Life is so short on earth compared to eternity. Please don't fall for the devil's lie. Evil in this world comes from somewhere and it's certainly not from a random event aka The Big Bang.

Yeah, I am rubbish at growing stuff. People joke about courgette gluts, but my 3 plants produced 6 between them this year.
I have an apricot tree that has given me 3 fruits in 2 years

IDespairOfTheHumanRace · 28/08/2025 23:07

Jesus wept - this OP is beyond offensive, all the bollocks about illness, disease and disabilities being the result of 'sin' - fuck off with that crap - 'be kind", be fucked! Monstrous!

HedwigIsMySpiritAnimal · 28/08/2025 23:08

“If you just close your eyes and block your ears
To the accumulated knowledge of the last two thousand years
Then morally – guess what? – you're off the hook
And thank Christ you only have to read one book

Just because the book's contents
Were written generations hence
By hairy desert-dwelling gents
Squatting in their dusty tents

Just because what Heaven said
Was said before they'd leavened bread
Just cause Jesus couldn't read
Doesn't mean that we should need

When manipulating human genes
To alleviate pain or fight disease
When deciding whether it's wrong or right
To help the dying let go of life
Or stop a pregnancy when it's
Just a tiny blastocyst
There's no reason why we should take a look
At any other book
But the Good Book
Cause it's good and it's a book
And it's a book and it's quite good!

Good is good and evil's bad
And kids get killed when God gets mad
You better take a good look
At the Good Book“

I’m a good person without religion so I’m not quaking in my shoes right now.

Rural areas tend to be far more conservative and Conservative than towns and cities - give me the latter any day of the week.

Evil very often comes from the religion - hopefully they’ll be the ones burning in hell, eh?

FastQuoter · 28/08/2025 21:39

God didn't make you that, he created you in his image! Sin is what destabilised the world and has caused illnesses and disabilities.

BUT there's hope for all that believe and follow Jesus Christ because when he comes again for the final time he will make his followers perfect. You will be made perfect and will live with him in the new earth and new heaven to glorify him FOREVER. Imagine eternity in heaven where there's no more death, sorrow, crying, evil.

The bible says no eyes have seen, no ears heard what God has prepared for his people. Life in eternity is going to be so much fun and so much bliss - we cannot even fathom it! Just believe in him, and let him know about all your worries. 😌

'Sin' did NOT cause my daughters' disabilities! Delusional twunt! 🤬

I’m a doctor who believes that illness and disabilities have nothing at all to do with religion and also would never dream of judging anyone’s life by describing it as a “sorry life on Earth” - how dare you do that!

I believe in science, I believe in evidence and I believe in striving to be the best person I can be. The rest, I don’t judge anyone for their choices in being religious or not but I would never dare to reduce anyone’s life to a state of being sorry or meaningless like you have.

Holy fuck , Someone delete my post, I didn't read the whole thread, didn't realises this was posted by one who was away with the sky faeries . Was just posting my experience

Florencesndzebedee · 28/08/2025 23:26

Er… what if you don’t follow JC? It’s it eternal (urban) damnation?

Cinaferna · 28/08/2025 23:39

You can grow veg in cities - they are full of allotments for just this purpose. or in your back garden.

DC can run wild in rural-like settings all over London from Epping Forest and Hampstead Heath to Richmond Park and Wanstead Flats. Children also need access to museums and galleries, music and good theatre imo and these are easier and cheaper to come by in big cities.

As we get old, we need to move back into cities. There are no hospitals in villages. It isn't always safe or possible for old people to drive so we need good public transport and shops, GPs and dentists within easy reach.

S251 · 29/08/2025 01:25

suki1964 · 28/08/2025 22:54

As a born and bred Londoner , who moved extremely rural community in a completely different part of the UK - think long and hard

So I rock up to the big mortgage free house, with lots of space - on the edge of a farm, in a tiny hamlet of just at that time 8 homes, mostly of elders

I had to take my ways and shove them and keep my gob shut

Dogs are kept outside - Im the weird one that has an inside dog

It stinks - farmers are farming, they really dont give a shit that its the only week of sunshine we are getting this year - they have slurry to spread - fuck you also trying to get your pillows and duvets done - they win

Grow your own? Yep tried that - only Lidl and Tesco sell cheaper without the ruddy hassle . You can only grow what the climate dictates, here its carrots and spuds - whoopee doo

We have hens - eggs are to die for for . Only trying to protect them from the foxes and dogs - we have to buy two a year at least to keep us ( 3 adults ) in eggs - and lets not talk about feed, because free ranging, unless you have acres , totally secure, you are spending to keep

Throw kids into the mix - no public transport - just the schools bus - 7;30 and 4;30 . Kids finish at 3;15 and not home till 5pm. So it's dinner, homework and then what? Mum and dad might have had a glass of wine, so there is no taxi service

I love, absolutely love living rural, but its not a walk in the park

We have to have a gas canister and a generator, we can be without power for 2 weeks at a time. We need batteries, wind up everything on standby. A storm - no knowing what's happening . Snow? can be 4 - 7 days before we can make a main line

I live in wellies and waterproofs ( ok so not this summer ) but our biggest challenge is keeping warm and dry . Oil is expensive, septic tanks can be temperamental ( no fun when its too dry or too wet and they stop working as they should and you cant flush )

Dont romanticise the county life , its not easy , its hard work to make it work

And this is exactly what I mean!! No as farmers we don’t “give a shit” if the weather is nice and your washing is out. You have no idea what it’s like trying to farm and relying on the weather a lot of the time you never will truly understand it because you’re not from the countryside. There would be no countryside without farming.

FastQuoter · 28/08/2025 20:35

Yes because they disobeyed and sinned against God.

But do you see, before sin they were in the garden of Eden and God instructed them to work and care for it - they were with the animals and such beautiful fauna! Life was bliss - that was the original plan before things got messed up.

But there will be a new earth and new heaven when Jesus returns - so we have to ready our hearts!

Are you for real?

GreorgiePorgyPuddingandPie · 29/08/2025 01:41

I live rurally and therefore need a car even just to go & buy some milk; so it's not saving the planet in that respect. If I go to London I walk so much more, even just to use the tube. Also, if you all moved out to rural areas then we would no longer be rural would we! The countryside would become as busy as the city & personally I did not sign up for that when I chose to live here. So stay where you are and grow your own in your own garden if you're lucky to have one.

Starlight7080 · 29/08/2025 02:22

I think this poster may be a man. Who needs some help. Its gotten very awkward .
Maybe start off with a few plants then a veg box . Before moving everyone from city's to the countryside. Which will then turn into city's. And then people will move back to the original city's just to get a bit of space.

Mistyglade · 29/08/2025 02:25

I’d go fucking mad living like that. Tear me away from London never, chum.

Shoxfordian · 29/08/2025 06:19

Its a no from me, I love London, don't like outdoors, kill plants by looking at them and don't believe in God. Sorry op

Meadowfinch · 29/08/2025 07:29

Just returned to this thread after a day. All I can say is if you believe sin is responsible for illnesses, and nonsense like that, please DON'T move to our village.

We may have muddy roads and no bus service but at least we are generally cheerful and sane.

MiddleAgeRageMonster · 29/08/2025 07:58

Holluschickie · 28/08/2025 22:37

I am ok with going to hell, really. Hopefully there will be Tescos and takeaway there.

Don't forget always warm! Bikini weather all year round 😂
Honestly, this thread is insane!
I don't often struggle for words but this utter nonsense has me flummoxed!
