Everyone should move away from the cities

Hey everyone. Posting here for more discussion. I want to start a conversation that needs to be had. I've read a number of posts regarding families escaping the big cities for elsewhere and it's been an interesting read. I've used it for my own research too because honestly whilst living in a city has its perks, there is a big trade off regarding one's health, stress levels and community, amongst other things.

I read where village/rural communities across the UK are hostile to Londoners moving in - but it's going to be more of a thing and should be encouraged!

Essentially, I myself, and many other of my friends I've talked to, believe that living in a more village/rural setting is ideal, but we fear the unknown. We fear the reception from others and if we'll fit in here in the UK, which is fair enough but hear me out! I believe more people need to live in rural settings, go back to our roots, the way our ancestors lived.

Grow your own food! I'm telling you they'll be a time soon when such a skill will be vital. Sustain yourself and do not rely on the government to feed you. Please!

Learn to work with your hands! Whether that's sewing (like our mothers and grandmothers did), cooking from scratch, embroidery, hair making, etc etc there is something wonderful about seeing the fruits of your labour. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 "And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you; 12 That ye may walk honestly toward them that are without, and that ye may have lack of nothing."

Beneficial for you and your children If you have young children, I can't see anywhere better for them to grow up. To be surrounded by nature as God intended (God put Adam and Even in the garden of Eden). The learn life skills from young.

Please be kind in the comments, this is my view and I certainly welcome rebuttals and counter-arguments but do be respectful.

OP, please continue to distance yourself even more from worldly things. We prefer it that way as then we don't have to hear more of your nonsense. Don't you have turnips to attend to? 🫜

There are people who believe that tosh - it’s fascinating. Believe the world was made in 7 days. Literal interpretation of men’s written word. Can’t understand the allegory and the myth and the reason for writing in the first place.

Sausagenbacon · 29/08/2025 08:10

The mark of civilisation is when people move into cities (hence the root 'civis')

No thanks, I'm not taking advice on where to live from an ancient book. Bonkers

In fairness, i don’t remember Jesus boring on about how we should all move to Lincolnshire and start growing our own cabbages in the Sermon on the Mount.

In fact, he seems to have been mercifully silent on Escape to the Country-style nonsense.

It’s particularly alarming when they are the 40 year old, comparatively well-educated, village vicar who comes into the school and spouts this kind of nonsense to young children. (Who, in fairness, largely seemed to have a more sceptical and intelligent take on it than he did…)

I think this poster may be a man. Who needs some help. Its gotten very awkward .
Maybe start off with a few plants then a veg box . Before moving everyone from city's to the countryside. Which will then turn into city's. And then people will move back to the original city's just to get a bit of space.

Like communism but reversed.

PollyBell · 29/08/2025 08:21

So what did jesus say about the internet and you using it to spread the....word....

TaborlinTheGreat · 29/08/2025 08:24

Hilarious! Aside from the Jesus twaddle, you seem to have a ridiculous idea of what living in a village involves in the 21st century. Villages are just normal places to live that aren't towns or cities. They aren't quaint throwbacks to the past where everyone grows their own veg and 'lives as god intended' Grin.

I've lived in villages most of my life (plus a stint in London). One of them was a wealthy commuter-belt one. Where I live now is more rural. People in both have normal jobs and lead normal lives - they aren't weaving their own rugs and making cheese from their own goats!

Swiftie1878 · 29/08/2025 08:28

FastQuoter · 28/08/2025 20:32

I understand, but the villagers need to understand that they have a great opportunity on their doorstep!

  1. Set up a bus system (job creation for the locals)
  2. Set up a clinic (every village should ideally have one, as health is key)

So you want to turn my village into a town?! No thanks!
‘Villagers need to understand…’ - how bloody patronising from someone who clearly knows nothing of the reality of village life, and only has some weird, ‘Victorian idyl’ picture of it in their head.

Please stay away. Our green fields are already under massive threat from the government’s desire to build a huge number of houses and ignore previous protections for Green spaces. If more of you choose to move here, we’ll lose our environment completely.

Squidlette · 29/08/2025 08:43

My ancestors lived in the countryside. In grinding poverty. 2 or 3 generations ago, they moved to towns, or entire continents, to escape it.

InfoSecInTheCity · 29/08/2025 08:47

I live in the city, I sew/knit/crochet, I have a little greenhouse with a few vegetables growing. I can walk to my doctors, the supermarket, schools etc There are frequent bus routes and easy access to trains and airports.

I grew up in the countryside 3 miles from the nearest bus stop or corner shop. No thanks.

caramac04 · 29/08/2025 09:02

I used to live in a village and loved it but as the kids grew; life in a small town with good public transport was much better. I would move back to a village as I loved it but DH points out as we get older we won’t be driving, will probably have greater need for gp, might lose our nhs dentist etc.
Some people love rural living but for others it’s just not a good fit.
Some people love city living.
I do agree about growing your own food but I think there will be more community gardens and some people will always afford to buy their food.
Live and let live.

'Sin' did NOT cause my daughters' disabilities! Delusional twunt! 🤬

Then what did? The Big Bang - a random event that came from nothing?

I'm sharing with you hope for a better and perfect life in eternity and you want to believe in 'such is life' and when you die that's it. Right?

No one wants illness, no one wants disabilities stricken upon anyone - don't be so foolish to think that this is okay and this is just how the big bang made it to be. NO! There is HOPE to EVERYONE that believes in the Lord Jesus Christ that when he comes again they will have everlasting LIFE in heaven and be made perfect. Amen - I cannot wait!

I think the best thing to do is ignore OP’s mad musings and talk amongst ourselves. Ignore them and their nonsense entirely.

I have temporary ownership of a garden of almost half an acre (rental property), if anybody fancies coming round to help me dig it over? We could have a BBQ, couple of tins, who’s in?

It's true. But don't take my word for it. You have to actually read and study the Bible with a humble heart and ask God for clarification. Don't lean on your own understanding.

Oh yes, and I have a friend who married a wealthy farmer - yes, they have a great life: have an amazing place to live, huge house and acres of land, grow their own food and their kid has his own little tractor he uses to get around the farm. But - dont have much cash to spare and can never go on a holiday together as farm requires everyday work, including 6am starts with no time off. They are in the middle of nowhere and hardly ever leave the farm.

Oh this will teach me to RTFT, I thought your thread was about living in the countryside for wellbeing but you’re actually just barmy.

Got it, I’m out.

Holluschickie · 29/08/2025 09:46

OP is tedious, but I have found the pther posts about rural living interesting. Confirms I should stay a city mouse and not inflict myself on the countryside.

You can grow veg in cities - they are full of allotments for just this purpose. or in your back garden.

DC can run wild in rural-like settings all over London from Epping Forest and Hampstead Heath to Richmond Park and Wanstead Flats. Children also need access to museums and galleries, music and good theatre imo and these are easier and cheaper to come by in big cities.

As we get old, we need to move back into cities. There are no hospitals in villages. It isn't always safe or possible for old people to drive so we need good public transport and shops, GPs and dentists within easy reach.

Yes there are great benefits living in the cities especially for families, I'm not denying that all.

Everywhere has its pros and cons - clearly.

Countryside is so white, love the diversity in London. Everything is close, as kids enter their teens they can be semi independent. If we moved out we’d become taxi drivers. There is community here.

How dare you assert your nasty beliefs in this way, suggesting a child ‘sinned’ to end up with disabilities?
Even if you are sick enough to believe it, why doesn’t your ‘Christianity’ demand that you respect a lot of people don’t agree and would be offended by such a notion?
You need to wind your neck in. Jesus would NOT appreciate this sort of harmful narrative.

If Jesus is going to cure my son’s disability, can he get on with it? I’ll have to keep getting up at 3am otherwise and it’s getting quite tiresome.

Patronising, offensive nonsense.
