I'm currently in the outside area of a pub, it's busy and I have a table to myself as it became free.
A woman just asked if her and her husband could join my table, to which I said absolutely, and then added, oh, but could you not vape please.
I said, very politely, you are most welcome to join my table but I won't be stopping.
She gave me a filthy look and left, fine by me, I still have my own table!

Was IBU though?

Perfectly reasonable to me. But I imagine you’ll get the Vape Police commenting as well as MN seems to be full of them.

it was your table. I can’t stand vapes, or smoking, but if I’d joined someone else’s table I wouldn’t expect them to stop on my account.

HangryBrickShark · 27/08/2025 13:16

No i don't think so.

As a previous paper it annoys the hell out of me that I used to walk round sucking desperately on a piece of plastic to make 'smoke'. I hate the smell of the variety fluids now.

The only way you will ever give up smoking is to quit gaping too if you are gaping to help towards quitting smoking or nicotine.

GreenWheat · 27/08/2025 13:17

If you were sitting in a zone where vaping is allowed then they can't really expect you to stop. Sure, they can ask, but not insist.

Radiatorvalves · 27/08/2025 13:18

Personally I think they should be banned. As they aren’t you may have been technically within your rights to vape away. But it impacts others and therefore I do think you should have stopped. I’d say the same if the person was sitting opposite you, downstream. It’s basically pretty selfish.

OP hasn't asked for giving up vsp8ng or smoking tips.

I dont like the smell but if it's outside and permitted then you can vape

Well that didn't take long. You are completely missing the point of this thread

YANBU.
The woman is a cheeky fucker though. Who does she think she is trying to dictate to you, after you were kind enough to share the table with her?

If she met me, I'd he tempted to roll a very strong skunk cannabis joint and blow it all in her face, just to pay her back for her cheek! 😆

I hate vaping; as a former smoker I'd actually much rather be downwind of a cigarette than some vile chemical cloud that smells like bubble bath. But for that reason, I would never sit down at the table of someone vaping! Mad

Ponderingwindow · 27/08/2025 13:57

I despise vaping, but if you were in a spot where it is allowed, you did not need to stop.

I’m always a bit surprised to read how many places it is allowed in other parts of the world as I’m not in the uk, but that is not really the point.

My thoughts as well

ManyShapesOfPasta · 27/08/2025 15:27

Yes, it's allowed, as is smoking, it's the outside area.
I'm away from home atm and as I"m alone I often get people asking to join my table, or I join there's, I don't vape if I've joined a table, but if you join mine then I feel it's OK
