How much have you paid for a cup of coffee recently?

This week I broke the £5 barrier for a cup of coffee, £5.50 in the British Museum, I know everything is getting more expensive but over £5 for one cup seems too much! Is it just me?

Paid £2.50 for a flat white on Monday (after DH confirmed they had a proper machine) it was awful 🤮 I poured most away.

Think it's usually around £3.40-£3.90

louderthan · 26/08/2025 22:23

I live in Brighton and a flat white in lots of the independent coffee places has been over the £4 mark for ages.

GCAcademic · 26/08/2025 22:25

£4.60. On a univerity campus! I've bought a coffee machine for my office now.

MrsClatterbuck · 26/08/2025 22:29

I haven't paid £4 or over yet. 3.40 would be the average where we live. When I was at work I used to get a scone and a Costa latte for £2.20 in the work canteen. Distant memory. Now retired 10 years.

Fragmentedbrain · 26/08/2025 22:30

£2.90 at my fave

When it breaches £3 it is time for me to go to the old person mountain to die

Viviennemary · 26/08/2025 22:30

About £3.50 usually.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 26/08/2025 22:31

£2.80 large Americano, excellent coffee from coffee van that comes to work

InterestedDad37 · 26/08/2025 22:33

£2.83 at my usual place - discount for having my own reusable cup 😀☕

Olive567 · 26/08/2025 22:33

I've winced at £4 and have paid £4.50. I think £5 would make me change my habits tbh.

DaylesfordBroccoli · 26/08/2025 22:33

I feel like £2.50-£3.50 is acceptable but anything over £4 and I’m going to have to become one of those people that likes drinking water 🤢

ViolaChomp · 26/08/2025 22:34

£4.50 tops

Dinosaursdontgrowontrees · 26/08/2025 22:34

I paid £4.50 for a small hot chocolate for my son today at a chain coffee shop. (Costa) I nearly fell over.

dagoo · 26/08/2025 22:35

It's never any less than £4.50 round my way. Or 4.5 as they like to style it. More than £5 and I'll be out.

humptydumptyfelloff · 26/08/2025 22:42

anywjere between £3.80 to £5.50 in my area and some are over £6

we Went on a few day trips last week and the cost of three coffees or drinks from a coffee/drinks hut was eye watering every time.

4 coffees and a panini in Costa yesterday set me bak £28 Blush

I love having a coffee out on a day off or weekend but it’s getting to be every Sunday and Monday and a Saturday at times.
for just the two of us it’s nearly £10 a time

I added up how much on the average month that comes to and it’s a whopping £130 a month Confused

yep deffo cutting that down me thinks

DaylesfordBroccoli · 26/08/2025 22:44

£6?! I’d want it in a solid gold cup for that price!

pizzaHeart · 26/08/2025 22:49

I’m absolutely certain that I’ve paid over £4 several times already, but I often go for a large coffee, however yesterday I paid £ 4.25 for a regular latte in a local NT type property ☹️
