First time renting – will job offer letter be enough proof of income?

I’m starting a new job in a city on Monday after spending the last six months travelling. I’m in my mid-twenties, and my boyfriend and I are looking to rent our first flat together in October. We’ve already started viewing places, but I’m new to renting so I’m not entirely sure what to expect.

One thing I’m concerned about is proof of income. Since I’ve been unemployed while travelling, I don’t have recent payslips. When estate agents or landlords ask for proof of earnings, would my job offer letter or new contract be enough? Or should I expect them to ask for a guarantor, a bigger deposit, or some other alternative?

I’m just wondering if moving in October will actually be an option, or if we’d be better off planning for later? Thank you in advance for any advice

Probably not.

Nope.

It will depend on your partner's wage. I think income needs to be 3 x the rent it something. You can write a covering letter when applying and give all relevant documents like job offer or copy of contract. If you don't fully meet the criteria you can have a guarantor. Good luck!
