That'd be cool even in Winter and people still want to use the outdoor area.

This thread reminds me of one day when DC3 was still a baby. DCs 1 and 2, who were 10 and 9 at the time, were squawking, squabbling and fighting. I knew that DH was just down the road, walking home from the station. I thought, fuck this, put DC3 in the pram, and walked down to the local pub, where I ordered a cup of tea and biscuits and enjoyed a quiet sit down while DC3 slept in the pram beside me. DH managed our older pair admirably while I was away.

Toddlerteaplease · 26/08/2025 18:22

I often have a cuppa when at a pub quiz. My mum
alwars orders a cappuccino when we go out.

MadKittenWoman · 26/08/2025 18:26

They have done for years…

XenoBitch · 26/08/2025 18:30

Pub local to me is a traditional ale pub. Just crisps and beer. No tea/coffee, but the best bit is no kids allowed. Dogs are though.

CheeseWisely · 26/08/2025 18:33

Most do, but I’ve known a few busy ones to stop serving hot drinks in the evening / after food service has finished because nobody has got time to be faffing about with the coffee machine at 10pm when it’s 4 deep at the bar.

Sarover · 26/08/2025 18:36

If I worked in public affairs at the pub landlord’s association and a focus group had revealed that tourists believed British pubs only served beer, this is the kind of thread I would start.

What’s happened to the OP?

Most decent pubs have a proper coffee machine these days.

So do the 'Spoons.

It's not exactly a rare thing, certainly not the unheard of thing the OP seems to think it is. After all, it's a cheap way of getting some money from people who don't drink alcohol all the time (or not at all).

tinytemper66 · 26/08/2025 18:45

The ones I frequent do, especially if they serve food 🍱

Weekmindedfool · 26/08/2025 18:47

Have you been living under a rock OP?

Sidebeforeself · 26/08/2025 18:52

I’m worried that OP started this thread, and is now furiously working away on a business plan and applying for Dragons Den…

Worked in few 'proper drinkers' pubs in late 90s / early 00s and they all served tea and coffee. And Irish coffee. In tall glasses with the milk carefully floated on the top. Didn't have machine then though, used cafetieres. Where on earth are you finding pubs that don't serve coffee?

Doesn’t Irish coffee have cream floating on top, not milk?

PrincessHoneysuckle · 26/08/2025 21:01

I'd prefer booze in a cafe tbh.

LittleBitofBread · 26/08/2025 17:43

Many do, but one that a group of my friends goes to regularly don't do any hot drinks at all. Tricky for me as I don't drink, I somewhat resent paying for branded mineral water, get tired of lime and soda, and I don't really go in for fizzy drinks.

I would love it if there was more of a culture in the UK like there is in other parts of Europe where bars serve everything from herbal tea to hard spirits all day and until late at night I have a particularly fond recent memory of an evening in a very beautiful and quite glam and buzzing bar in Madrid where my friend had a few glasses of nice wine and I ordered a hot chocolate, and the waiter didn't turn a hair.

Yes totally agree with this

Yeah, there are some nice cafes where I live that also serve booze.

RubySquid · 26/08/2025 21:37

BitOutOfPractice · 26/08/2025 14:06

😂

I got all excited at the thought of a pint of tea before I got the joke. I think tea by the pint could be the future!

Sounds an excellent idea

Wellnthat happens as well. A few in our town do that

Get a Sports Direct mug. Although I think that is more than a pint!

HRTQueen · 26/08/2025 21:44

Most do

I rarely drink and will often have a coffee or a hot chocolate

Probably. It was a long time ago. I just remember having to learn to pour it over the back of a spoon, and I wasn't very good at it. And they were a bloody pain to carry as they were balanced on a saucer they didn't really fit on, on a tray. And I was usually at least a little bit pissed by the time of night people wanted them, which possibly didn't help.

Sarover · 27/08/2025 20:13

@MyPithyCat was your OP a genuine question? It’s been made completely clear on this thread that you likely haven’t been in a real British pub for several decades. Are you going to bother to reply or were you just after the clickbait replies?

Jk987 · 27/08/2025 21:37

why don’t you know that they do already OP?

RuthW · 27/08/2025 22:03

Never been in a pub that doesn’t sell tea and coffee
