How the fuck do you manage it? Please - I’m so close to just shaving it off and wearing wigs instead. It’s light brown and absolutely wild

if I straighten it it looks thin and dead and makes my face look long and old.

Totally get where you’re coming from.

Decent cut and Diva products. Their gel is a game changer.

ImFckingMattDamon · 26/08/2025 10:01

Make sure your hair is dripping wet when you put in the mousse/gel/whatever so the curls form nice clumps. If you towel dry it first they will separate and go frizzy!

Cracklingsilverwear · 26/08/2025 10:01

Wash it - use loads of conditioner.

towel dry - a little more conditioner in hands / scrunch it through - let it do it’s thing!!!! as now all curly but the conditioner tames it down a bit!!! Alice band or head band to keep out of eyes.

just cheap supermarket shampoo and conditioner- nothing special.

takes 5 mins to sort…

or if I’. being super lazy or haven’t time to wash it - bung it in a pony tail .

life too short to waste hours on trying to tame my hair! Someone once straightened it for me (their insistence) it took them 3 hours - I just don’t have that time or patience !

ManchesterGirl2 · 26/08/2025 10:03

When damp after washing, brush with a very wide toothed comb, and then add curl cream. Leave to dry naturally. Try to avoid windy days :D

Londondreamer · 26/08/2025 10:12

Been there, done that. If your hair is in anyway frizzy, it's because it is curly or has some wave to it. Straightening may work at first but it is a losing battle.

As others have said, conditioner is the hero here. When you've washed and conditioned and your hair is wet, put about a two pence worth of conditioner through your hair (mines about shoulder length) and then scrunch. You could then put a gel over the top, I've used Boucleme gel for years, or even the conditioner on its own will help.

Keep scrunching then scrunch using an old cotton t shirt, don't use a towel, it makes it frizzy, this gets the excess water out. Then leave it to dry or defuse.

Seems like a faff at first but you can get multiple days out of this by just spritzing with water in the morning and scrunching again.

Good luck, release the curls!

realslimshade · 26/08/2025 10:13

Curl specialist cut
mousse and gel and diffuse until crunchy then scrunch it out

Nevereatcardboard · 26/08/2025 10:14

There are 4 options with curly, frizzy hair:

1 Get it cut short into a pixie cut or similar
2 Get it straightened or professionally styled very regularly
3 Embrace your curls. Have it cut by someone who can manage curly hair and only use appropriate products for your hair type.
4 Tie your hair back or wear it up most of the time

I’m a mixture of 3 and 4!

jay55 · 26/08/2025 10:15

It’s shoved in a bun. I can’t be dealing with a complicated hair routine.

Hoolahoophop · 26/08/2025 10:39

Lower your expectations and accept a routine of....

Day 1: Wash day - shampoo, condition, shove in some cream, leave in conditioner of some type and gel or mouse, accept your hair will take the entire day to dry and you will look like you just got out the swimming pool.
Day 2: Usually the best - hair is finally dry and looks ok, curls have settled and not too much frizz, just a little lived in ruffle.
Day 3: Yep, its a nest, try to recover by adding a little extra water or gel etc to pull it back into some kind of order, make it look worse. Shove it up in a pony.
Day 4: Back to wet all day again.

I actually like my curly hair.

I use a silicone and suplhate free products as much as possible, either cheap supermarket ones or expensive curl specialist ones when I am feeling flush. I shampoo (not co-wash) one of my favorite shampoos is the faith in nature bar, then condition no favorites here. Then use a tiny amount of some kind of cream (currently cantu curl activator) and I prefer gel (currently umberto curl jelly) both added while my hair is sopping wet. I squeeze out excess water give it a quick smooth and scrunch and either diffuse or leave to air dry.

I sleep with it in a scrunchie on the very top of my head to protect the curls. In the morning I take the scrunchie out and might smooth it with a little water or gel, but mostly just accept what it looks like. I tend to wash twice a week, if I go four days from wash it usually needs to be tied up (mine is short so I mostly just pin back the top layer as that looks frizzy, the bottom layers being more protected look great. I also have a curly cut.

As mine is short (above shoulder bob) I have a large variety of pins, clips and claws that I accessorize with.

When I was child free I used to take much better care of it (and it was waist length). Then I used to do a weekly deep conditioning treatment. A curl specialist deep treatment put on wet hair, then a heat cap over the top, left on for an hour) it made such as difference, my hair was in great condition. But now I cant be bothered and accept a little more frizz and call it character!

Saeurcat · 26/08/2025 10:42

Follow @Londondreamer instructions and add a silk bonnet to your bedtime routine.

Ddakji · 26/08/2025 10:44

Lots and lots and LOTS of product, applied to pretty wet hair.

MightyGoldBear · 26/08/2025 10:44

I use tons and tons of conditioner and when I have the energy I do lots of hair masks and oil. Make a big difference to the frizz.

MightyGoldBear · 26/08/2025 10:45

Silk pillowcase helps too.

FeatheryFlorence · 26/08/2025 10:58

Good haircut by someone who understands curly hair. I use Cantu products, particularly their leave in conditioner/curl cream and the next day curl refresher. But if you get a good haircut, your curls will work much better!

littlebilliie · 26/08/2025 13:00

Find your curl pattern and look for products that match it. Also find a good curl hairdresser

steff13 · 26/08/2025 13:04

I use Olaplex #6 right out of the shower, comb it through, and then scrunch in gel. I let it air dry, and sleep with a bonnet. It gets very humid here, so there are days I can't combat the frizz, but this method mostly works for me.

DaisyChain505 · 26/08/2025 13:09

Make sure you’re using a curly shampoo and conditioner. Have a brush in the shower and brush it through whilst the conditioner is in to untangle and separate the curls.

if you have really thick and unmanageable hair, use a curl cream once you’re out of the shower and then hair mousse and gel and then diffuse.

use a silk pillow case and wear your hair high on your head using a silk scrunchie.

If you need to refresh your curls again before a wash day spray them with water and use more curl cream if needed.

There’s plenty of curly haired girls on Instagram who do great videos about looking after your curls.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 26/08/2025 13:11

Really good cut. L'Oreal Extraordinary oil and a Dyson hairdryer which has transformed my hair. I always used a Parlux but the Dyson cancels all the frizz,it's quite amazing.

amicisimma · 26/08/2025 13:12

A really good cut by someone who understands curly hair.

Don't wash it more than twice a week. Coconut oil on wet hair, hoping to achieve that fine balance between too much and too little.

amicisimma · 26/08/2025 13:13

And never let a hairdryer near it!

KimHwn · 26/08/2025 13:13

Fucking hell, I hear you OP. I think the heat is making mine worse. I finally found a good curl routine (cantu curl creme, gel, bla bla bla) but it's so much work and I can't be arsed. I just want to wash it and that it looks somewhere near OK without faffing around.
Also considering chopping mine all off.

WooWooWinnie · 26/08/2025 13:15

Great suggestions in this thread but essentially you need a curly cut from a curl specialist who will advise you. And do not brush your hair.

FatherFrosty · 26/08/2025 13:15

Have you tried the curly girl method? Some of it I do. Some I don’t. Bit of trial and error. But it helps

Ionacat · 26/08/2025 13:16

Embrace the curls, I’m growing my hair at the moment and the longer it gets the tighter the curl. I wash mine and then I’m another cantu fan, leave in conditioner and curl cream. I twist the curls in when wet and then either leave to dry, (my car air blowers make a fantastic hair drier) or diffuse. Next day I used the cantu refresh and just retwist in some curls. Having it cut by a hairdresser who is good with curly hair makes a big difference.

mumboyof1 · 26/08/2025 13:16

I only brush my hair when I’m washing it in the shower. Any other time it turns into a birds nest. I also use Olaplex no. 3, a little dollop when wet to act as a leave in conditioner and the Olaplex oil no. 7 to keep the frizz at bay. It’s not a cheap solution but it’s the only solution I’ve found after years of frustration
