Am I the only one not doing much on bank holiday Monday

Just that really, I don’t do a lot anyway, outside of the big role of parent, home keeper. Occasionally do nights out. It’s times like during the holidays and child free, where I feel it highlights where you are in life and what you do or don’t have.
I just imagine most having hobbies interests. Being out for family days out, even seen my neighbours doing that. And couples and singles out doing something.
I know they say things don’t just come to you on a plate, but then I feel you can’t just make them appear either.

If anything, not that I am someone who like I have witnessed people having kids for many reasons, do not live my life through my child.
It’s an eye opener as to what it will be like in years to come when they are grown up and out a lot or not there at all, and I think if anything makes you think that it’s a good experience to think what you will do, plus being quite a bit older too.

Of course the weather is lovely too but I am not someone who loves sitting under the burning sun.
And it’s carnival weekend too, so it’s just the idea that everyone is out doing something.

Most people are at work and school here so it always feels like a bit of an odd day to be off! I’m just enjoying some down time when I should be catching up on chores.

Ted27 · 25/08/2025 15:33

Ive cleaned the bathroom, done two loads of washing, cleaned the living room properly
( ie brushed down the sofas and hoovered under not just round them) About to do the washing up and then head to the gym for an hour. The gym happens to have a coffee shop where I might just have to stop.

Watching the football with my son this evening.
Nothing exciting really. But going on holiday in two weeks.

DracunculusVulgaris · 25/08/2025 15:34

No, you are not alone! I am, most uncharacteristically, not doing anything - other than feed my chickens, feed myself and other essential chores, I have accomplished nothing today when I had intended to spend time working in the garden this morning, pick up windfall apples to make apple chutney and then go off fishing for the afternoon! But I am not in the correct frame of mind, struggling with a personal crisis and just wasting time away - I know, though, that this evening I will flagellate myself and feel guilty for having 'wasted' a day!

BengalBangle · 25/08/2025 15:35

I'm not doing anything. 🙈
My DC are away with my ex/their Dad and I'm trying to save £, so didn't plan anything.
Spent the day food shopping and filling in forms.
Exciting is not a word I'd use to describe my life at the moment. 😂

rubicustellitall · 25/08/2025 15:35

I am not doing anything either. It feels like a sunday and thats a feet up day for me doing not a lot after a busy week. Enjoy being at home, chilled out and resting it is not very often we can!

Caroparo52 · 25/08/2025 15:36

Changed the sheets. Went to the dump. Trimmed my herb garden. Washed floor. Answered emails. Got yoga to look forward to tonight. Average day

Just lying on my bed scrolling on my phone.

I’m lazing around at home with the sun shining in and doing some house work here and there. Partner is working all day.

I’ve got a chicken curry cooking away in the slow cooker so that’s dinner sorted.

Heyhelga · 25/08/2025 15:40

Went out this morning. There was a car boot sale going on in our town so we mooched round there for a bit. Got an ice cream. Done some chores and gonna sit in the garden. Bliss.

murasaki · 25/08/2025 15:41

Done laundry, changed cat litter tray, er that's it. Sat in the garden enjoying the sunshine. Later DP will make a curry, I'm in charge of sag aloo and showing him how to make flatbread. So a very lazy day.

We did go to a funfair yesterday and went on rides, failed at winning prizes and ate fresh donuts, that was fun.

It's downtime with nice food, basically. Saturday was me on 5 cheese lasagna, yesterday was him on steak and chips.

Comedycook · 25/08/2025 15:44

I've barely left the house...been pottering around and in the garden. DC has a horrible virus so we're not socialising or going out... taking it very easy

CrispsinaBowl · 25/08/2025 15:50

Just pottering around doing stuff that needs doing round the house.

Radiatorvalves · 25/08/2025 15:52

Been for a long walk. 18yo joined us and we’ve had a burger for lunch. Now on train going home.

Mikart · 25/08/2025 16:18

Been out for breakfast, 6 mile walk. Currently drinking cremant in the garden

LegoMaxifigure · 25/08/2025 16:18

Resting after quite a busy weekend with DS who had a good time but it was very tiring for me. He is also recovering by hiding in his room! About to clean out a fish tank and make dinner ( not at the same time eeew)

BrieAndChilli · 25/08/2025 16:23

Us and the nieghbours cur down a tree that is on the boundary. It has sorung up between our garages. Ours is being rebuilt so now the old one has gone we have been able to get to it.
Done some housework and not chatting with DD who has got home from Reading festival.
Going to cook something with lots of green veg for dinner as she is craving something fresh after days of festival food!

blobby10 · 25/08/2025 16:28

I'm single and not 'out' today nor any other day tbh!! Came back from camping holiday late Saturday night so yesterday was laundry and caravan cleaning. Today took the caravan back to storage, saw my parents, walked the dog, have done some gardening and now trying to decide if its too early to try out a new gin before taking the dog out yet again Grin

Sheknowsaboutme · 25/08/2025 17:05

I live rurally and every city dweller comes here. I tend to avoid going anywhere on BH. And stick to walking in the places they dont know about.had a lovely 2 hour mountain walk this morning and saw nobody. Perfect!

Endofyear · 25/08/2025 17:50

I've had a really lazy day ☺️ popped in to visit elderly neighbour, did a bit of food shopping, ate lunch in the garden, watched a bit of soap catch up, had a nap! Now thinking about making dinner and then vegging watching a bit of tv. Adult sons have come round and playing cards with DH in the kitchen, can hear them laughing and chatting, it's lovely.

I cannot explain how jealous I am! I spent yesterday cleaning up kid vomit and today working (I work in an office job i.e. should not be working on a weekend or BH!)

Redruby2020 · 26/08/2025 00:11

Sounds like a good mix of things that you were all doing today. I think with me, some of it is over worrying thinking that others are doing all these things. Also that I hit depression when I have free time. I also suffer anxiety with going out. It’s complicated. But I am waiting for some therapy. I have to remind myself the free time doesn’t last. I did a few things indoors and I actually had an afternoon nap, got up did a few more things and got a parcel ready to send off tomorrow, something I sold on ebay(all helps in reducing the clutter)! And had some ‘loaded chips’ from the takeaway.
