What are you all doing with your 8 year olds today?

Looking after our 8 yo dgs & don't know what to do with him today. If we stay at home he's just going to want to be on the Xbox all day. No way on a day like today! Had a look at local events & they all suddenly seem a bit babyish for him. Even a walk in the countryside to see some Alpacas no longer appeals to him.
He does love to be active, running, swimming & football. We've just come back from an active holiday where he's done lots of bodyboarding. Back to school tomorrow so don't want today to be a let down.

Have you got a garden? My kids love going to their granny's and having a fire in the garden! Or making cakes/brownies /bread?

We've still got almost two weeks left and I'm really running out of ideas/money.

Shopping for school uniform bits today. She needs a new bag and shoes. It's stuff I have to buy her anyway so I don't feel like I'm spending money on something really.

I make a day of it and drag it out as much as possible. Let her take her time choosing, have a supermarket lunch (free for kids in most of them) and get her some new hair bits for school too so it all feels more of a treat, and like shes been spoilt without breaking the bank.

I think kids can be in too much of a rush to grow up tbh. Maybe it's because of a younger sister, or because of ADHD, but my 8yo loves playing, soft play, playground, beach, etc. Today we went to a petting farm and she loved it.

We also do a lot of baking together, occasionally science experiments, craft etc.

We share a family console but she plays it maybe every 6 months. She does like reading and playing games on her tablet though.

If your GS isn't interested by alpacas, fair enough, but he's not too old for it.
