To be devasted the roundabout in my town has a crappy 'flag' painted on?

I nearly threw up when I saw it this morning - what a horrible shock.

It's a very small town in the Midlands near a city. Yes it's ex-mining but does reasonable ok now, not deprived eg no contextual offers for my dc for uni, but not massively desirable or trendy. Has a Labour MP now but hasn't always in recent years. Voted for Brexit but only just. In 2019 more people voted against Tories AND Brexit than for them - split the vote so we still got a Tory, but still.

In other words, I did not expect this. It's horrible - looks ugly and badly done even before you get started on the thinking behind it. AIBU to ring the council on Tuesday and ask when they are going to deal with this vandalism?

I did a four hour round-trip on the motorway today too and the amount of flags on bridges was shocking - just make it stop.

Birmingham City Council has been taking them down if they are put on council property. The Council have said that it's fine for people to fly flags on their own properties.

Or perhaps you are all drooling how pro English you are, getting free health care, free housing, free schooling, free access to multiple services and suddenly you are vomiting when these same people are showing their stance against illegal pedophile type male immigration.

What I want to know is why all these anti English threads are being allowed to stand. We have it all on this thread, fire and brimstone would be raining down in a different context some of these posts are putting out.

Again try reading carefully. I didn't say lefties are the ones I consider non-racist. On the countary I think they tend to sterotype all black and brown people as good and don't differentiate between different countries/regions of the world and cultures - the very definition of racist. Not that simple - they use reflective paint on mini roundabouts for safety reasons. So they will all have to be repainted properly.

I doubt the idiots doing this give a shit though, because they probably don't pay tax or council tax. If you're that patriotic, fly the flag on your house or garden, or even out of your window.

I’ve just finished off a new flag! Took me ages.

I’m giving it to the man across the street who’s been painting roundabouts with crosses. I know he’s very big on British military history so I’ve gone for a naval/nautical theme, the navy being the Senior Service.

I expect he’ll hang it from his window, along with the Union Jack he’s already got.

Actually, yes I do as a pp a few posts back said they hadn't bothered to read about Raising The Colours, as they weren't even sure they cared.
That's what it boils down to, isn't it? People actually are racist, or they would rather live in their own little ignorant bubble and not have it popped, it's comfier that way, or they actively want to call it out if they see it or experience it.

That's a good point about reflective paint, that hadn't even occurred to me (I don't drive before anyone gets worried 😂) so I bet half the roundabout painters never thought of that either.

For years the state has let regional inequality rise destroying opportunity for millions of people. This has nothing to do with immigration, but is rather a mutiny against the political elites (see also Brexit, AntiVax, Climate change denial) who have benefited so greatly from the current system while the white working class have become the most disadvantaged group in the UK. The state has sown the seeds for these riots long ago and now they are blossoming. The only way to fix this will be long term economic growth accomplished by decentralising power away from London to local areas with a long term plan to fix regional inequalities.
