Online date wants to move to WhatsApp before we've met

I've been talking to someone online for a couple of days and he has suggested we meet up for coffee. He says he isn't on the app much (although he has previously replied very quickly to my messages) and gave me his number to organise coffee. AIBU to prefer to keep it on the app until after we've met up and then if we both want to see each other again, swap numbers at that point? Will he be put off if I tell him that?

Thank you for the reassurance, I've said yes and suggested some dates for coffee but that I'd prefer to stay on the app for now. Will see what (if anything) he comes back with!

I used to suggest swapping numbers before meeting as I once had my profile deleted for some reason, and when the app fixed it two days later I’d lost my best match ☹️. Glitches happen.
