Olly Murs’ new song gives me the ick! Lighthearted.

How old is Olly? Singing about sick on his jeans. Makes me feel ill every time I hear it. AIBU?
What lyrics make you cringe?

It’s an unbelievably bad song. He’s in his 40s! Olly Murs is the type of man child Sabrina Carpenter sings about.

Not to mention he briefly released a song criticising a woman for drinking too much. I hate you when you’re drunk. A real put down. I thought it was odd at the time and even odder now with this new single.

TheAutumnalCrow · 24/08/2025 12:03

It’s one of those manbaby lyrics along the lines of, ‘hey baby, I did a tonne of bad things and you’ve got to save me now, so if you’d just like to get on with it …’

Edited

The lyrics of I hate you when you’re drunk compared to this new one are so funny.

Women, don’t get drunk, urgh this is so embarrassing and I’ll have no sympathy for you in the morning

Babe! I’m drunk, I’ve thrown up down myself, save me!!!!

What a loser.

greengreyblue · 24/08/2025 12:13

I do find radio 2 weird in that that play stuff like that and then bleep out other words that would otherwise be inaudible and so draw attention to it Olly is in his 40s and singing about kebab on his shirt and sick on his jeans! He’s not a Fresher! 😂

Loads of his songs are misogynist dreck - not surprised the latest one is utter crap too

EineReiseDurchDieZeit · 24/08/2025 12:42

Can’t stand Olly Murs anyway. Hate Ed Sheeran’s new one too.

LlynTegid · 24/08/2025 12:45

Olly who?

Didimum · 24/08/2025 13:04

Olly Murs gives me every kind of ick going.

AnHourToAnywhere · 24/08/2025 13:14

Everything about him gives me the ick.

Usually when I’m not into someone’s music, I can at least see what others like, I can see that they’re talented and just not my thing, but Olly Murs is one of those people that I just don’t get at all. I never understood the fuss at first and I’m even more baffled that he’s still somewhat successful so many years later.

OverlyFragrant · 24/08/2025 13:17

Olly Murs is whole ick

Gowlett · 24/08/2025 13:22

Never heard an Olly Murs song in my life…
Assumed he did Buble style covers, until now.

But I did read an interview recently where he said he can’t sing about meeting girls on dance floors anymore, now he’s a dad.

You probably have.

Please Don’t Let Me Go, Heart Skips a Beat, and Dance With Me Tonight are the kind of bland cut out pop songs that you hear out and about in shops etc. The kind that just blends into the background and sounds like everything else. Nothing particularly good or particularly awful. The magnolia of music.

The lyrics of this one are crap though.

CatherineParr · 24/08/2025 13:44

Will Smith's new one..called something like, I like girls. Ick...he's nearly 60

Exactly, I must have heard lots of these pop songs in shops etc… But like you say, I’ve no idea who’s actually singing them!

greengreyblue · 24/08/2025 14:21

Oh I’ve never liked his music. Like a pp said it’s just bland pop but those lyrics made my ears prick up and take notice of who it was, for all the wrong reasons.

Is there a world in which Olly Murs isn’t icky? Can’t stand him.

Gatekeeper · 24/08/2025 15:13

He's known as Oily Murs in this house with good reason.

the80sweregreat · 24/08/2025 15:22

His music is bland, but his popular so people must like him and the songs. I’ve not heard the new one out but sounds a bit grim.
I caught a bit of Chappell Roan at Reading and some of her lyrics made me cringe. I just I’m not their demographic I suppose.

Limoncellospritzlover · 24/08/2025 15:25

HATE that song, have to rush to turn it off if it comes on the radio.
Hate all his bland rubbish songs actually.

theonlyonestillawake · 24/08/2025 15:35

I also hate this song. A grown man singing about vomming on himself on a night out. He's always given me the ick, particularly since he made that video of offering his girlfriend a tube of pringles and he'd "hilariously" cut the bottom off the tube and put his nob in there for her to touch without her consent. Grim. An absolute pube of a man.

Ah see I like Chappel Roan. Well I like Good Luck Babe anyway. I’m 54 but I like to think I’m open to music across all eras.
I see you’re a fan of the 80s and funnily enough I find Roan’s use of synths quite 80s like ( which embarrassingly is probs quite retro for her 🙄😳).

He gives me massive bad vibes. Couldn't bear him from the get go.

the80sweregreat · 24/08/2025 15:42

I saw a lot of Madonna’s influences with Chappell Roan and I liked her stage set up at Reading , but one or two lyrics I found to be a bit too up front ! She is definitely one to watch though and seems to be hugely popular and talented.

I don't want to like Ed sheerans new song but I do. Can't stand him but it's so catchy
