I think we need an alternative to Mumset called Waspsnest where all the people who like to be dicks can go.

I think maybe OP was just trying to be funny and we all took it the wrong way. I’m sorry if I upset you OP. I supppose the debate is… is it better to be a wasp or a viper? I’m choosing viper cos I look awful in yellow.

Hoppinggreen · 24/08/2025 12:03

You can't be supportive to a wasp, they get angry and sting you.

Only if you annoy them

Yes, I don't think I'll be pursuing a job as a comedian anytime soon.

It wasn’t that bad. Could have been worse lol. I’ve seen much worse thread ideas.

Sera1989 · 24/08/2025 12:25

AIBU can get heated, and there are always a few unnecessarily mean comments on posts that get traction, but I find most people who think it’s mean here post for validation and don’t want to be told they’re wrong or need to change. Not talking about you OP because I don’t know your posts. But sometimes people are clearly in the wrong, then double down or become defensive and rude, then think they’re being picked on - the “it can’t be me, it’s everyone else” mentality that gave them a problem to post about in the first place

5128gap · 24/08/2025 12:28

I think the problem is OP, MN is an influential site, with a strong track record in helping women understand and fight for their rights. The everyday feminism of helping women see they don't have to put up with this or that, they have options and choices, that doesn't always go down well in some quarters. This means there's a fair bit of activity aimed at discrediting the site. Portraying it's users as nasty, bitter, waspish if you will. This is hugely unfair as it doesn't reflect the culture of the site, and if convincing, may put people off seeking help here. So while it's intended to be 'light hearted' to accuse people of being wasps on MN, it's really unhelpful to keep pushing that idea about the site.

Goodness me this post is attracting all the wasps

Is this not a dickish post then?

Off you go 🐝

Easy, one is for supportive comments only and the other for those who feel superior and like to have a go.

Then mumsnet would simply become an echo chamber.

Not all OPs are sensible, truthful saints needing support.
Sometimes NOT being supportive is the correct response.

Yes, I was referring to the unnecessarily mean comments, but I think the best approach is to ignore them rather than challenge them.
I shall buzz off now.

Do you not consider calling people wasps mean?

Or is there one rule for you and not for others?

ThePhantomoftheEcobubbleOpera · 24/08/2025 13:24

Awesome. Would people on waspnest be expected to read the thread title and make an assessment of whether they were robust enough for it and not recklessly launch themselves into the middle of it and complain they are triggered?

Anna467 · 24/08/2025 13:36

Wasps are important pollinators and natural pest controllers for things like aphids #save the wasps

I was querying why people were mean and I made the post as to be humorous , not unkind.

Not wanting to be mean OP.. but your post is a little lacking on the funnies

Very politely understated.

Aldilidl · 24/08/2025 14:00

I don’t get this. It seems really nasty to me.

I've never thought of myself as particularly nasty.

Sweetmelonff · 26/08/2025 06:18

The Op started this thread because on her other thread about not wanting to get old, posters pointed out that if she focussed on her current life, that also not at all happy with, the OP may feel more positive about the future.

And sadly, that went down like a sack of spuds with the Op

Sweetmelonff · 26/08/2025 06:19

2sidesofcoins · 24/08/2025 11:40

This thread OP confirms exactly what posters said on your other thread.

Focus on improving your present life to be happier and then the future won’t seem so unrelentingly bleak to you @2sidesofcoins

YanTanTetheraPetheraBumfitt · 26/08/2025 06:31

Wasps Nest is a village in Lincolnshire. People may get confused and think it’s a website about the village 🤷‍♀️😁

99bottlesofkombucha · 26/08/2025 06:33

FiveShelties · 24/08/2025 11:32

Who will decide who posts where though?

Meeeee i can do it!

nonperfectparentsplease · 26/08/2025 06:40

I do think a lot of posts here are about baiting the OP rather than supporting them.

They also die really quickly if you smack them hard with a flip flop.
