The Resident Labour Market Test was abolished in January 2020 by the Tory government.
An example of its impact is on Resident Doctor unemployment. It is estimated that 20,000 UK trained doctors are now unemployed. These graduates cost the UK £250,000 to train.
In 2025 63% of applicants to UK NHS pecialty training posts were from international medical graduates. UK specialty training is how our resident doctors train to become our future consultants.
Would welcome examples from other sectors.
I am asking politely that posters that wish to be negative about our UK trained medical graduates or UK medical schools refrain from posting.
This is a post about the impact of the Resident Labour Market Test being abolished.
