We’ve bought a house and moved in 5 months ago , few months before we moved in a house next door went on the market and was sold to a property developer. Turns out that the area we moved to is being saturated with HMO housing which we didn’t know about before. So now house next door is being extended and turned into one of those . I feel literally sick to my stomach , can’t function, crying most of the time and don’t know what to do , we are unable to oppose this as this council has not implemented an article 4 which gives you a right to do so.
Talking about it makes me feel sick as I’ve imagined this as our home at least for the next 10 years or more , was any of you in similar situation?

I've been in the situation of LIVING in HMOs for twenty years, because until I was in my mid-forties I couldn't afford to do otherwise. And I'm as respectable, law-abiding, quiet, clean and all the rest as you are.

I don’t think people are ‘scum’ because they’re addicts, no. Addiction is pretty grim for everyone but i can distinguish the behaviour from the person and don’t see the need to dehumanise people.

A nationality represents a group of people that can share a similar outlook. It is present in nationalities all over the world, from existential thinking to whats considered polite. It would also include thoughts and behaviours towards a particular sex. I have worked in a diverse number of roles and I have seen first hand how entrenched attitudes can be in a particular nationality, so much so that specific support groups and advocacy has to be set up to help the victims within these groups because they are silenced and controlled by their own nationality. To not establish specific support groups that catered for different nationalities would mean that the very people we are trying to help would become unreachable.

Which is an uncommon way to write in English and is very common in AI. That particular post also had a number of other common AI markers. You’re not the first to copy and paste an answer and won’t be the last.

None of that makes nationality a risk factor. And ‘working in a diverse number of roles’ doesn’t say anything about the people you’ve worked with or what you’ve come to know about them. Did you mean to say you’ve worked with a lot of nationalities?

It's scary we're in a situation now where some people feel they can openly declare a nationality or a culture to be a 'risk factor'. I wish I could send you back to the 1940s.

I agree. And to declare that openly is racist.

And from a poster that on other threads has suggested we need to understand that white people all have different views. A courtesy that only extends to some skin colours. But she’s not racist… (oh sorry — to indicate a long pause in my thought process).

@sciaticafanatica I must have imagined the ten years that I spent as a young professional in London renting rooms in shared terraced houses and flats.

It is a really common way for people in their 20s and 30s to live in expensive cities. Also a lot of councils these days define any property with at least 3 people of different households sharing facilties such as a kitchen and bathroom as an HMO. That could be three single women in their thirties sharing a three bedroom house. A very very common set ul in most cities in the UK.
