To not get my winter vaccine this year

I have mild asthma but ended up in hospital a few years ago with RSV after being ignored by my GP and subsequently developed asthma. Since then they always give me an appointment for the winter vaccine. Last year it made me feel awful for about 2 weeks and with young kids and job that I have to speak publicly for etc it was exhausting. I know it's probably the right thing to do and people will tell me how much worse flu etc is but I just hated it so much last year. AIBU to maybe not get it this year?

Ooo sorry i'm team get it done

Two weeks is better than a hospital stay because of an asthma attack girl xx

Also team get it done. The potential risks are worth feeling crappy for a few days.

I pay for a flu jab every year because I don't bloody want it and I have no underlying conditions!

Two weeks of feeling rotten but being able to muddle through or being hospitalised and on oxygen or even worse interventions with a significant recovery post hospital discharge? 🤔

Glitchymn1 · 23/08/2025 18:30

Two weeks is a long time, but could it have been hospital if you didn’t?
I get mine and I don’t have any conditions.

Ex ICU nurse who nursed several asthmatics (many didnt recover) over the years following winter asthma attacks brought on by bugs.

Get it done.

You're being really illogical. If the vaccine made you that ill, imagine how much more ill you'd be with the full virus.

But also, you may have caught a different virus which you have chosen to blame on the vaccine.

Base your decision on science.

Thanks everyone. I also mentioned it to DH and he told me to not be so stupid so....getting it done!

YABU.

What’s worse? Two weeks of feeling under the weather or a winter of dodging bugs?

iirbRosb · 24/08/2025 08:26

I’ve wondered this to be honest as I felt rubbish after but I agree get it done; I got it done right near Christmas so this time I’m going to try for a time when I might have a bit of breathing room after if I’m ill (not entirely sure that’s achievable but not near Christmas anyway)

Sorry you felt shit last year OP, but please get your flu and COVID jabs this year. It's not worth the risk.

Also, it is possible that the reason you felt shit was entirely unrelated. You could have picked up a virus from the kids.
