How do you forget how many drinks you have had on a night out?

My boyfriend has went out I posted about this not too long ago. He said he couldnt leave and when he did another drink would be brought for him. I asked how many he has and he can’t remember the exact number but it wasn’t many and he’s not drunk.

if you didn’t have much to drink how would you not remember how much you had ? Is this normal to forget all the time

Based on your original post (not the drip feed drink driving issue)

I would not appreciate someone asking me how many I had after a night out. None of their business!!

Why didn’t you put the drink driving bit in your post? Is it because you made it up after the post wasn’t going your way?

Plus I am asking because he’s driving home. And last week come back in an absolute state and threw up over the bathroom. When he didn’t say he was going on a night out

The only amount to drink if he's driving is none.
That more of an issue than whether it's three or four.
I'd never remember or keep track of how much I drank on a night out. But if I've driving I'd never start, I'd only have 0% beer or sparkling water

MyLimeGuide · 23/08/2025 14:38

Tell him to get a taxi next time.

I have never said I condone him drinking while driving. And I agree it is very dangerous. I genuinely don’t know how many is over the limit as I don’t drink

I’ve told him and said my part I do have feelings for him so it’s hard to just tell him to get lost

You know the limit , that’s rubbish and you could google if you didn’t!

Wait until he kills someone ends up in prison and then you maybe lose those feelings.

OversteppingEx · 23/08/2025 15:06

YABU for being more concerned about him not remembering how many he has drank rather than the fact that he is driving whilst under the influence.

You really haven't found the prize here OP.

5128gap · 23/08/2025 15:09

Don't try to keep track of his drinks OP. It's pointless and you'll never know the truth anyway. Keep track of his behaviour. Last week he drunk himself sick and messed up the bathroom. This week you're worried he'll drink and drive. Once he starts drinking he can't stop for...reasons. He sounds like a problem I'd not want to live with.

itsgettingweird · 23/08/2025 15:09

I don’t drink alcohol. But I wouldn’t remember if I had 2/3/4 cokes on a night out. I tend to enjoy myself rather than keeping tabs.

DelphiniumBlue · 23/08/2025 15:16

Drink driving, drinking so much that he's sick not even in the toilet, this guy does have a drink problem.
Also, we all know that 3 or 4 drinks means 5+. If it's shorts, it could be 5 or 6 doubles.
I wouldn't bother waking him up for work, it'll be a thankless task. It's up to him to get himself up for work, or is he too drunk to operate an alarm?

Ruggerlass · 23/08/2025 14:34

He could be drinking alcohol free beer.

He's not though, is he? 😂

DelphiniumBlue · 23/08/2025 15:21

Oh and if you are worried about how many drinks is over the limit, for most men it's somewhere between one and 2 pints of normal strength beer, depending on their size, and probably nearer one pint than 2. With shorts, 3 singles could put him over the limit.

Cosyblankets · 23/08/2025 15:29

I was out the other night.
No idea how many I had. I didn't count. But I was not driving. I don't drink and drive. Just like most normal fully functioning adults.

In England the limit is 35mg per 100ml of breath. Obviously that’s hard to put down to a number as people are different - men process alcohol faster and generally have more blood for example.

But the range for humans getting to that amount would be around 1/2 a pint to 1.5 pints. It is well known, by almost all drinkers, that 3-4 pints (that’s around 8-12 units) is well well above the limit.

Well yes there’s no need to track soft drinks. If you lose track of soft drinks you don’t get alcohol poisoning or black out… stupid comparison and not the same at all.

He’s not though. Or he wouldnt vom all over the bathroom. OP has also said he’s on rum.

latetothefisting · 23/08/2025 16:24

because it's not particularly interesting. Can you remember exactly how many glasses of water/cups of tea or coffee you had yesterday, or how many times you went to the toilet? Why should alcoholic drinks be more memorable? I'd say it's fairly normal not to remember the exact number after a night out drinking. You sound like an absolute nightmare badgering him for whether it was exactly 3 or 4.

Shinyandnew1 · 23/08/2025 16:42

So did he drive home drunk? Did he go to work at 7.30?

Ruggerlass · 23/08/2025 18:27

JockTamsonsBairns · 23/08/2025 15:16

So it would seem

3luckystars · 23/08/2025 19:15

You can’t stay with someone just because you have feelings for them, if they are doing terrible things.
