Pub Quiz question: 'How many months have 30 days in?'

What would your answer be?

11? They all have 30 days apart from Feb. Even those with 31.

ScrambledEggs12 · 22/08/2025 22:42

11 or 4 depending on who wrote the quiz.

I think I’d say 11.

Not February

I don't agree with 11. I would read it as exactly 30 days and I think most people would. Pub quizes are usually general knowledge not trick questions.

NoThanksNeeded · 22/08/2025 22:45

11 months have 30 days IN them. That's not up for debate

How many months HAVE 30 days is where you can get the debate over whether they mean have 30 days as the total (April, June, September, November) or have at least 30 days (all bar February)

It's ambiguous and a poorly constructed question. The answer is either 11 or 4.

A pub quiz is exactly where I would expect this kind of (stupid) trick question.

SprayWhiteDung · 22/08/2025 22:47

Definitely 11 - it's an old riddle, designed to catch you out, that's often seen in kids' 'fun fact'-type books.

There's also another 'makes you think' question along a similar vein: which month of the year is the longest? The answer being October.

OK we must go to different types of pub quiz. I must admit though the answer 4 would be way too easy for the quizzes I've done.

Freegrass · 22/08/2025 22:49

It’s a badly worded question - I expect the answer is 11 (i.e. all except February). I can see how 4 could also be the answer.

Trovindia · 22/08/2025 22:46

It's ambiguous and a poorly constructed question. The answer is either 11 or 4.

But it's deliberately done that way; like it or hate it, it isn't poorly constructed as a trick question at all.

It's deliberately designed so that you have to listen/read it carefully, to avoid being caught out.

VivienneDelacroix · 22/08/2025 22:50
  1. It's a well-known question, as a pp said. It's designed to catch out those who jump to the first conclusion, rather than actually thinking about the question.
Redshoeblueshoe · 22/08/2025 22:51

11, but I would have said 4.

Barney16 · 22/08/2025 22:51

I would have said 4 because I would think they meant only 30 but I guess, if they were tricksy, it would be 11

RaraRachael · 22/08/2025 22:51

It's a silly question. We used to do loads of quizzes and set questions too and made sure there were never ambiguous ones

soupyspoon · 22/08/2025 22:52

Oh dear, I wouldnt have spotted the slightly trick question.

Did people kick off OP, were tables overturned and drinks spilled?

steff13 · 22/08/2025 22:52

All of them except February, so 11.
