Dirt bikes causing havoc

For a while now we've had an issue locally with teenagers riding around the footpaths on dirt bikes, a girl was knocked down last year and broke her leg. They never found who knocked her down but since then it quietened down, until recently.
three times this week I've had to quickly drag my 5yo out of the way of a dirt bike speeding past, tonight there was five of them all together. they're out all hours of the day so we cannot get away from them.
The local council do nothing.
I've contacted police who told me they'd call back only to be told they cannot chase them because it's too dangerous and that do not have enough man power to deal with the issue at the moment, sorry. So where do we go from here? Someone's already been injured It's only a matter of time before worse happens.
aibu to want something done about them!?

Email your MP and outline the Police response.

Keep calling the police. Give them a detailed description of the bikes and the people riding them, photos and videos if you can. Best if it's during the day in the week as they're less likely to be busy.

We had a problem with it around here a couple of years ago (live next to a large park) and a lot of residents reported them every day. The police eventually started patrolling regularly and caught them (one was injured in a crash), bikes were scrapped, and although we still get the occasional one it hasn't got so bad since.

I have emailed MP but no response so far, will keep at it though. I will keep reporting it, the issue is by the time your through to 101 (I don't think it justifies a 999 call) they're long gone, they do need officers patrolling it wouldn't take long to track them down.
