To be really fed up

I've been hoarse for 11 months now, ever since I had loads of steroids as a result of an asthma attack (was hospitalised). Hoarseness hasn't gone, have since been examined - camera down throat - and prescribed antifungal liquid. Camera showed vocal chords working well.

Antifungal worked for a few days but now back to being even more hoarse, can just whisper. No pain whatsoever, feel well, but finding it so difficult to make myself heard and understood.

Please can anyone let me know if they've ever experienced this, what worked for them, or am I destined to whisper forever more? I'm fed up of how I sound, of having to explain what's wrong, and of not enjoying any social occasions as I can't make myself heard!

How has it been left re next step and your GP?

Greenscreennightmare · 21/08/2025 15:43

@Returnofjude I would presume that the ENT person will have written to my GP informing her of the details of my visit and treatment, and letting her know that I'm due back to ENT in a month for a checkup.

Normally I think my GP would contact me after that checkup to say either, I see that's sorted or, that didn't work so here's what's next. But next checkup is 1 month away, that's a month of explaining/apologising for hoarseness and avoiding meetups, pubs, parties as I can't contribute to conversations.
