Neighbour crashed his car into wall and is blaming his dog??

Really strange one here.

Tonight my neighbour crashed his car into my wall. I know he was using his car because of the damage that’s been done. However when I confronted him and asked him about it he’s claiming it was his dog. The damage that’s been done is massive and I know it wasn’t a dog!!! It is mental that he’s even suggesting that it could have been a dog that did it because the hole is so big.

No idea whether he’s saying that to stop insurance claims or whatever but I just want to know either way if it was him or his dog that have the right to claim the money back! Surely even if it was a pet (IT WAS NOT) then he would have to pay for it!

Are You planning to claim off his car insurance, or off your house insurance? Are there any ring doorbells or cameras around that could have recorded it? Even if they didn’t record the crash, they may have recorded the direction the car was going in.

Take pictures of his car.

That’s annoying he’s not admitting the truth but he’s admitting it was caused by his dog which means he’s still at fault. I would remind him of this and point out are you claiming through car insurance or house insurance. Are there any cameras around that may be pointed in that direction?

Good call on the ring cameras I am going to pop out now and have a look. Genuinely been a bit shook this whole evening by it because it’s so bizarre!

It is bloody strange because there doesn’t seem to be any damage on his car at all from it!!! Not that I could see anyway. It is pretty beat up his car anyway.

i am personally thinking he might have been under the influence when it happened but no idea for sure and that might explain some of it

Yeh so clearly taking some accountability but not all of it! No idea at all what angle he’s going for with it all though which is what is confusing me the most.

Call the police. If he was driving under the influence, he could have killed someone.

Laura95167 · 18/08/2025 22:57

If it was his dog ask for his home owners insurance... tell him you dont care if it was his dog or his car just get you the details for your claim.

Alternatively point out you know it was the car based on the damage to both it and the wall and he either pays to fix it, provides insurance info or youll report it as a hit and run to the police

To be honest, from the thread title I thought that was what he was claiming! That the dog had knocked the handbrake off his car or something.

Obviously ludicrous to claim the dog bumped into your wall and caused it to collapse. But his liability regardless.
